Exactly why I try to stay away from French bikes.

Must be the color. I think it makes people happy to look at it. Reminds me of the mixte that afilado got via robbietunes and me.

I'd hit it... :D

I have not seen many yellow Peugeots at all... orange seems to be the most prevalent colour for that era and perhaps that is because the best rider of the day also liked orange bikes.

I share your madness... and an affection for orange.

Did you recently inhale a lot of ash/smoke?

Continuous fixing?

Buy a boat!

BAH! I had a yellow, lugged Peugeot back in high school. FFS system, 6 speed rear, stem shifters, and it was YELLOW! Man, I'd kill to have that thing back again. *sigh*

I have worked on thousands of old bikes and had more than my fair share of Pugs pass through my hands and can only recall seeing one yellow one of that mid seventies vintage... the FFS system was used in the early 80's and quickly abandoned.

Green and orange are the most common colours I have seen here, purple frames are a little rarer, and they made this lovely light coppery brown that I have only seen a few times.

I think that a lot of the appeal these old Pugs had was their vibrant colours that stood in stark contrast to the more sedate colours of the competition.

Funny, it seems like the white ones outnumber the colored ones by five to one in my memory.

You beat me to it. afilado made that thing an ace, too... I like the road version, too.

I forgot white... it must be a regional thing as I have not seen 5 times as many white pugs.

It's a beauty. When you have nothing else to do you can put a chain on it.

SoreFeet 03-19-09 09:37 PM

No your not mad...I'm really mad! Today I spent a long time cleaning up an old Carlton frame. I try to install some new shifters and the damn thing has stripped braze on mounts. I'll be damned if I'm going to tap them out to work. Now I'll have myself a nice fixed gear with protruding braze ons!

Its the quasi path racer I've always dreamed of. I once had a low end Peugeot frame like yours. Too my surprise it rode pretty damn good. Perhaps the gaspipe peugeot tubing is of a magical caliber.

I have 5 vintage Nishikis, two with Tange 1 frames, one with Tange 2, 2 complete Ironman bikes with Tange 1 frames, a Woodrup with 531 Reynolds tubing, a Peugeot Ventoux, and two Trek steel frame road bikes. Sooooo naturally, the vintage bike I ride the most:

I have that bike. In white. I love it. But I broke it down a couple of months ago for a refreshing during the winter. Got sidetracked by other things. Need to get back on that before the spring weather really gets going.

Here's my recently acquired UO8, though it has a seat now, and shiny wheels.

Still needs a bit more love to be road worthy again.

ozneddy 03-21-09 02:35 AM

Looks great Chris, you anywhere near me ? we should start a club ! lol

Poguemahone 03-22-09 06:27 PM

I have an Eisentraut, a Schwinn Paramount, a 1967 Peugeot PX10, a Serotta, an AD Vent Noir, a 1984 Trek 720 Tourer, and the bike I ride the most may be a mid-seventies UO8, coverted to fixed gear and also coloured yellow. I likely spend more time tinkering on this bike than any other; it even has some wheels I handbuilt around old Brampton track hubs. The bike was bought years ago for a fiver, and has been my lock-it-up to a pole barhopper for a long, long time.

Can we subtitle this the "Cheap Peugeot Appreciation Thread" ?
