Why I Sold My Dura Ace Stash
Some of you took advantage of my liquidation of Dura Ace 7400 series parts I had accumulated over the years. Those parts were used on, and in reserve for my De Rosa Professional.
Well, I must admit that I have been smitten by the new Campagnolo 10 speed stuff, and decided to give the old gal a face lift. I still have four bikes that are C&V, all Campagnolo Record, or soon to be (watch for a Dura Ace AX offering in early June), but all of my De Rosa's now sport 10 speed.
I took her out for a test ride today, so excuse the dust on the bike.

I love that color. I had a trek repainted to that same color when I lived in Hawaii in the 80's. It naturally then goes with the white accents. Gorgeous

One thing I learned was, it's not that easy to cold set a quality frame. The De Rosa was initially right about 128. I used the Park tool method and the SB method, and honestly, I was able to move one side about 1 mm. I used the Park frame alignment tool, and worked pretty much on one side of the rear triangle. Once I got it pretty darn straight, I quit. It wasn't bending easily, that's for sure.
I love the bike, and am very satisfied with the build.
For those who care, It is mostly 2009 10 speed Centaur, with the exception of the calipers and the Ergo's, which I traded b21 for. They are older. I will say that I much prefer the 2009 brakes and Ergos, for comfort and stopping power. Those went on my Primato build.
I bought a Centaur group from Ribble for just over $500, delivered. Of course, like everyone else who has ordered from GB lately, my CC info was stolen.
The tires are Veloflex Pave's. The stem is a Cinelli 1A, and the bars are NOS Cinelli 64-40's, double grooved, which Universal still has in stock. The wheels are Mavic Open Pro's laced to Record 32h hubs.
The saddle is a Regal, and yes, that's a Fred mirror on the left bar end.

Nice - but I hate to tell you, but there's a hole in your bottom bracket.

Why don't you head South and take some proper photo's for me? We are having a big group get together for this year's Tour de Scottsdale, free lodging if you don't mind flopping on an air mattress!

I like it very much, used to own a pink bike also. Shimano on an Italian steel bike just does not seem correct, so now for the exception.... the pedals With some Chorus or Record Pro fit or Pro Fit + pedals all would be right with the world again, the sky would remain blue, chemical contrails would be no more...

The aluminum group does compliment that frame. Looks as nice as the Primato.
But 1 demerit for wax residue on the head tube lug.
Is there a reason why you chose to run Record hubs instead of full Centaur?

Very nice make-over old fat guy. Personally, I just love looking at a wonderful Italian stallion kitted out with Campy.
I think the blend of classic steel and a modern gruppo is just a natural extention of the period correct school of thought. It gives the classic steel frame a new lease of life - and you can't get any more classic than your wonderful De Rosa frame. I think the look of a classic steel frame with a modern gruppo leaves the sterile look of carbon fiber for dead.
Nice work,
Gary.

OFG, I notice you have a longer stem. Does that work better for you?

Looks great. The 09 Centaur is super sweet too. I purchased the same group and installed it on my Raleigh USA Team Professional. I was impressed by the smooth shifting and the comfort of the ergonomic shifters. As previously stated the alloy group really compliments a C&V frame.

Your arms must be really sore though.

Very nice results. I've been keeping an eye open for a reasonable Campy group to come within my reach dollarwise.
As to the quoted portion above, does "GB" mean Great Britain? Or is there a vendor out there who's been compromised that goes by GB?

There have been a number of threads on this forum, RBR and Serotta documenting this problem. Whatever the breach is, they don't seem to have it fixed yet.
