Spindle Source?

Dealing with a Pug. and need a 113mm spindle. are there any sources out there for getting just a spindle? i am beating my head against the wall.

ISO, Campy, Ofmega, or JIS? Symmetric or offset?

rahatawa 03-31-09 05:58 PM

square taper. iso/jis not sure. i am holding a 110mm sugino ms-10 D1 that came out. it appears symmetrical.

based on the pictures of the phil "jis vs jis low profile vs iso (campy)" the one in my possession looks mostly like the iso

If you go from a 110mm to 113mm it will probably push your chainline out 1.5mm. Is that what you're trying to achieve?

rahatawa 03-31-09 06:18 PM

no. i am having to replace the cranks and got a sugino rd set up and it touches the cups before it tightens onto the taper... (made more sense in my head) i would love to find a crank set for a single ring set up that fits no problems but not sure which is going to be the simpler plan.

remove the spindle you have and fit the crankset on it, both arms the same direction. Measure the tread/q factor (outside to outside at pedal threads). You probably want about 143mm (~140mm tightened). Subtract 143mm from what you have now and add that to the 110mm. Get back to us with the results.

Also visually check to see that you have room from the end of the spindle to the tightening face of the crankarms to be able to tighten by 1.5mm. You don't want to bottom out. Sounds like you might be putting a JIS crank onto an ISO (or old Campy-style) spindle.

The the spindle I'm using with a Sugino RD triple is 113mm symetrical JIS.

thanks guys. dirt drop if i could find a 113mm symmetrical JIS i would be ecstatic but can't find one anywhere! i am now debating getting a un72 or phil and phil cups. And option two is finding a vintage iso campy crank. i have no idea what i am looking for there though. What are some models and how far back to i have to go to find campy cranks with iso taper?

rahatawa 04-01-09 06:47 AM

i am pretty sure i have a 110mm iso tapered symmetrical and need a 113mm JIS tapered symetrical. i am new to c&v and this is crazy. i thought square taper was square taper

Spindles in that size are the damnedest things to find. You can find 120-128mm length spindles on ebay for about $15.
The shorter ones I have seen for around $38. I have a few Suntour Sprints which I think are length 109. If that
works for you PM me. I will have to double check on the length. Suntour would be JIS.

Alternatively you can wait for one to show up on ebay. They come up, but not every day on ebay.
