Crappy Mother's Day!

What can a parent do that is so wrong that their child grows up and gives them a Huffy???

When my sister left for central Ohio, my mom sent her old Huffy Bay Pointe with her. She told me later that she wished she still had it, you know just in case. Well after that I spent some time watching craigslist to see if any reasonable replacements would turn up. The bike I found is almost identical to her old bike in every single way except color and a few very minor details.

Bike cost:

$5.00 purchase price
+$8.00 Chain
+$5.00 Bell brake cables
=$18.00 mothers day gift

So here it is, a very 70's Huffy Sun Country 3speed. Fully restored and heading to my poor unsuspecting mother for mother's day. Thanks again to Machin Shin for the spiffy brake cable housing!

HAHAHA! I also don't know what's a joke and what's serious!

But this one is, I think, and now that we've decided that...

holy crap.

you restored a Huffy.

That's okay, one of my secret dreams is to get decals for and restore a Free Spirit, or rebadge something 531 with Free Spirit decals just to freak people out when it rides like a god. (Or just build a Campy-equipped free spirit.)

Just something fun.

But it actually looks pretty darn good.

Its still a bike! Nothing wrong imo with huffys, murrays, columbias, etc.. as long as you make sure to only pay what they're worth. Thats great for only $18!

/QUOTE]

pshhh..... this is my 2nd turd to polish (4th if you count my 2 Schwinns). Up next is my moms old Huffy Bay pointe, my sister was riding it around Columbus in death trap condition, the brake caliper was hanging on by a thread. It's in my basement now awaiting it's turn.

In all seriousness, I actually dig this bike. I have a phillips 3 speed too and I would say that the huffy is almost comparable quality (minus the crimped dropouts)

Oh, man... See what you've done?

Now I am craving a 3-speed huffy/free spirit.

I'm inspired! I have a Huffy Sportsman in the shed I hauled home from the dump a while ago. It must be worth thousands (if cudak888's Huffy is worth that much then mine must too)!!!! It's a lime green, has lost its fenders, and has a twist grip shifter for the SA 3 speed rear hub. What's not to love?

Whoa.... yours has an SA 3 speed, extra fancy! This one has the shimano 333 hub, I bet yours is worth maybe 3 figures?

The best thing about working on this bike is there is zero pressure, and all of the parts are insanely simple....No cone locknuts

When I was a kid I used to think my mom's huffy was the fastest thing on 2 wheels. I would beg my day to pull it down from the rafters then tear *** all around the neighborhood on a macho maroon womens bicycle.

I think it looks great and if your Mom likes it then you are the greatest kid ever. Is she one of those cool moms that bomb around all the time?

Your momma will love ya even more. That's a great gift, mucho mas amore than most other gifts.

ISO:
1976 Sears Free Spirit 10-sp, 27" chrome wheels. White with red/blue "ribbon" accents and a "'76" decal on the top tube. It had a R/W/B saddle and R/W/B striped wrap. It was, next to the '76 Bicentennial Vega, about the most killer commemmorative of the day....next to it, the Schwinn's were phugly. $99.99 plus tax.

I used to have a men's Sun Country that I got for free. It wasn't a bad bike, and it was even better after I swapped the 46 tooth chain wheel for a 39.
