Opinions please! Craigslist Peugeot
I'm looking to start a new project and I may have found my next project.
I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to Peugeot, but I did some digging and here is what I've found.
+Appears to be a 1983 PSV 10s
+Super vitus is the Peugeot equivalent to 531 Reynolds?
What's your opinion on this frame? Would it be worth building up? The seller is asking for $150 (talked him down a tiny bit). I live in the bay area so bike prices are crazy sometimes. Let me know what you guys think! I'm on the fence right now...

If it's a PSV it's an awesome, lightweight ride. I had an 84 PSV and had blast on it. I wouldn't hesitate to get another. The owner of my LBS used to sell Peugeot's and told me he thought the PSV had gone English thread by '84. He said '82 and '83 were usually Swiss thread. My dad's '84 PSV that's hanging on my wall has an english thread bb.
It seems like a good deal. I was looking at a couple of barely ridden '82's where the owner was asking $400. If I had the cash at the time I would have bought at least one of them.

I built up an 85 Super Vitus Peugeot w/a tange fork and it is my new fav ride. Very smooth and light. I would not hesitate to do up another one if the threading is english. Mine is BTW.

Got more pictures from the seller... unfortunately there may be some damage on the downtube. I asked him to take a closer picture and the degree of damage.
EDIT: Seller says its just a paint chip and no frame damage. I'm getting an itchy trigger finger

personally, I think $150 is expensive, but I live in an area with inflated bike prices as well and understand. If the BB is English, I think its worth $150. If its Swiss, well, at least you have the whole BB If you could verify the Swiss BB, perhaps you could talk the seller down to $100-$125

The PSV-10 is a 55 according to the seller... I'm still waiting on a response about the threading, but I suspect french from this google search...

1983 Peugeot Model PSV-10
Purchased on eBay 08/2007 from original owner that couldn't tell me much about it, date of purchase, or his decision-making process at the time. Highlights include Modolo Professional brakes, Simplex SLJ6600 rear der, bolt-on Peugeot-specific FD, French-thread Campy BB and Omas HS, 3TTT bar/stem (v.short), Deep engraving on the Campy shield on the seatpost, Super Vitus 980 tubing (what tubing had a better name or stickers than that?) as embossed in the downtube, and matching period bottle. Cage is 'Jim Blackburn'. Pedals, saddle and wheels are mine; came with: awful quill pedals, a 'Concor Max' with plain Concor logo on rear, and Ambrosio Montreal tubular rims on campy record hubs, now off for cleaning. Shows evidence of being worked on more than ridden. Ride is Peugeot-era-typical, in my opinion, kind of soft yet not slow.
UPDATE 01/23/08: Found a catalog scan of the bike which dates it as a 1983 US model. However, I have also seen photos of pros riding this frame in the 1982 season. "

This is going to be my restoration project. I hope it doesn't turn out to cost me an arm and a leg.
A few pictures the seller sent me. I think I'm pretty solid and will pick it up after work.

Riding like its 1990
Do it if you have the $. You can always sell it later as a whole bike.
Don't let it be the "one that got away".
That frame looks sweet.
Don't let us find out you ground off all the housings, painted it neon green to make it a fixie.

I'm not going to put up a front. I'm a fixed gear rider the majority of the time. However, I dont see a need for a second fixed gear bike. So this Peugeot is getting the full restoration on it. Well, as much as I can find/afford.
I'm a greenhorn when it comes to things like gearing, shifters, derailleurs, and all that jazz so I'll be leaning on you guys for support

Yea, I'm going to try to restore it best I can and most likely have it be my "guest" bike when friends and family come over.

tiger send me a pic of the driveside BB cup and I can probably tell you if its Swiss or British.
'83 falls into the purgatory of Peugeot threading. The headset is either French or British and the BB is either Swiss or British. Because it has a tig welded Nitto stem thats more than likely 22.2mm I'm going to say the headsets British. On occasion 22.2 stems have fit into French forks so it could be French.

There is also a NOS PFN frame on eBay for an exorbitant amount. If it came with fork, BB, and headset i would have bought it.
Looks like you found an awesome project.

#1: Get it for $150. It's worth it for a PSV-10 - they're probably one of the most underrated steel weight-weenie frames out there.
#2: Doesn't look like it needs a restoration at all - just a nice polishing with Meguiars Scratch X.
#3: Mind you though, they have a springy ride, which may or may not be to your liking. It will feel whippy at first, but unlike some other whippy machines, this thing will simply shoot off like a rocket after a momentary bit of frame flex.
-Kurt
P.S.: I've since got rid of it, but my never-finished PSV-10 buildup (with FSA RD-80 wheels and tri-color Shimano 600) came out to a mere 18.5 pounds, WITH brifters. Excuse the crummy pic:

$150 including the chrome fork, headset, and BB is a screaming good deal. Enjoy your project. Be sure to get a good leather saddle.

First and foremost thanks to everyone here who helped me out. I wouldn't have been able to make the purchase without the info and experiences you guys provided
With that said here it is folks! I'll be trying to return it to its catalog image (or close to it) bit by bit!

Very nice, Tiger!
Restoration can take on many forms. To the catalogue is one way, but you can also restore it to the race version as well.
