Should I be kicking myself?

(The description will be vague, but bear with me).
A while back, one of my managers offered me a bike. At the time I didn't really seem all that interested, largely because the name he said "Corsa" reminded me of those new CF Wal-Mart road bikes, and I didn't want much to do with that. He FREELY offered this to me. He even came in one day not too long ago saying he had it there and was just gonna give it to me. And I was still under the whole "Crap" idea in my head.
Well... he got fired a few weeks ago. At the time I didn't think anything of it. Today, though...
I did...
What I can remember of his description was that he got it at a thrift store. He never mentioned if it was steel, or aluminum or whatnot. Just the name, and one other detail. "Glue on tires" as he said.
So... a "Corsa" with Tubular wheels...
That hit me today... too late of course.
Made me think things like Cinelli Super Corsa, Bianchi Reparto Corsa's, and Eddy Merckx Corsa's...
I know, it's unlikely. Could have been a cheap frame with decent wheels.
But... there's always a chance it isn't. And I blew it with ambivalence.
Stupid me

Gene, you seem like a nice guy but, yes, you need to smack yourself hard.

Then, call him up and offer to take him out for a condolence beer. Your treat. Casually bring up the subject and insist on giving him $50 for it.

Everybody's a winner. He gets a couple of beers and $50. You get something with "Corsa" in the name that has sew-ups. Definitely worth more than $50!

The problem with calling him up is that I'm not sure I'll be able to get his number. He wasn't directly MY manager, he was the manager over our third shift. I only worked with him on a few occasions. One of those the dicussion of my interest in bicycles came up, and he mentioned it. I never knew if he was completely serious. Which is why I remained ambivalent about it. I didn't want to get excited, or seem excited over something nice that had the chance of being freely given to me and possibly ending up having a price put on it (though had it had a price put on it, and it was worth something, I would have paid it).
I just didn't trust this guy a WHOLE lot, there were rumors about him and the ladies at work (part of the reason he was fired, though they weren't actually rumors ).
I could ask some of the people from third shift, but, I feel that may leave a bad taste in my mouth, and possibly a bad rep for me on third (or first or second) and I don't want that. Upper management (well, management in general) has been very hush-hush about his termination, and I don't want to get involved in something kinda lingering like that.
I guess that's why I'm kicking myself mostly. Because I didn't take it when I had the opportunity, and even though I could possibly find someone with his number... I worry for the sake of my job about doing it.

If you know the guy's name, Google it and find him. Or look him up in the phone book.

Amani that's how we get our bikes. I was patiently persistent in acquiring my Paramount track bike, drove 3 hours each direction for my pair of px10s and 2.5 hours in each direction for my colnago.

Get off the Internet and on the hunt......

Really, Google him. If it has sew ups, that would probably make it worth something right there. Just don't discuss work, act like a nice guy (I'm sure you are) who just is looking to help out someone who might need some cash about now.

Want me to call him for you?

I hear ya brother. I just missed an opportunity to trade for a '72 red Schwinn Sports Tourer in a 25" frame. I found it on an eight day old CL post. It even had the original Brooks seat. I contacted the owner, and she already had someone coming over to work out a trade. She said she will call me if the trade does not work out, but I know it'll never get back to me

How come I feel like you guys are pressuring me into this?
I looked up his name on White Pages (took me a few minutes to remember his last name). I'll wait until atleast tomorrow to call. I'm gonna ask some of the guys at work if they think it would be appropriate to call him.
I know, if I'm regretting it all, you all are the last people I should be talking to, largely because you'll be telling me I HAVE to do it, for the sake of YOUR curiousity.

Dude....tell the guys at work you owe him money. They'll surely give you his contact info.

It not about OUR curiosity its about YOU scoring a good bike for a great price. You can either play the game or have the game play you. Your choice!!

But if you're seriously worried about your job, and what people think of you there, that's fair enough. Live and learn, next time you'll say yes the first time.

Call him or I will kick you myself. If the bike turns out to be a Walmart special, just thanks him and drive to the nearest Goodwill and get a tax write off.

Well.... I would take anything for free, Huffys, Free Spirits and all the junk included. Incidentally I have a basement full if Junk (which I fix and give to friends for free).

I would call the guy if I were you. I AM curious but there are so many other better reasons to call and find out. I bought a wrecked bike today knowing that it was wrecked, just for spare parts.

Well... I decided I'm gonna wait. If it turns out to already be gone, well... oh well. Live and learn.
I need a "car" before I get a new bike. By car I mean I'm seriously thinking about plunking the cash down for an LHT. I like the idea of a car-free lifestyle. I see plenty of people love their LHT's, and it makes sense for me right now to not have a car, likely much to the chagrin of my dad.
I know, I know... I could still call him, and find out. But, this decision is more pressing to me than a bike that may not be worth driving 2 hours for nothing.
If I do decide to call him one day on a whim, you'll all be sure to know.
