700c wheels on a mixte frame - brake problems? done it?
I just picked up a beautiful, nearly perfect looking Nishiki Olympic 12 that I am going to clean up/tune/install city bars on for my wife. I'm considering putting a nice, light(er) set of 700c wheels & more modern brakes on it for her, but I was wondering if there is anything inherently incompatible with the rear brake setup or cable routing or something w/ a mixte frame and modern road bike brakes. I would assume not, but it's late, I'm tired & I figured I'd put it out there & see if anyone has any experience with doing this.
And, for the record, the matter of taste WRT running 700c on a 27" design frame & more modern brakes vs the cool dia-compe center-pulls isn't really the question. I'm thinking of using another set of wheels to make it a little lighter and if I do that I have a brake reach problem & probably would go with longer reach Tektros....at least that's the logic as I see it at the moment.
Here's what it looks like (if you didn't see it in catch of the day)

I would throw a 700c wheel on the bike and see if your center pulls reach. Some center pulls have quite a bit of adjustment, and you don't need that much.
Do a search on 27 700 conversion, its a common topic.

yeah...I've done the measuring & read the threads when I've been on other bike projects. The only part I haven't done is look at exactly how the calipers mount in the rear on this bike. Surprisingly, with the 27" wheels, the pads are already at the full extent of their adjustment, so the extra 4mm or so I'd need isn't gonna be there. Guess this means I should report back what I find in case someone else is following me down this questionable path....

FWIW: I just picked up a Centurion mixte frameset and will be attempting to mount 700c on it myself. If they don't fit the brakes, I will just wait for some 27 inch donors.

Funny...I just picked up a Univega Supra Sport mixte frame and I'm thinking of putting 700c wheels on it...something's in the air... I probably won't get to it for a while, though, so I'll watch y'all do it before it's my turn

I just converted my Super Course (men's frame) to 700c today. It has Weinmann 750 centerpulls in the rear and 610's in the front and everything reached perfect. FWIW I checked on a set of Dia-Compe centerpulls (the weinmann knockoffs) and they reach too. Last Night for ****s and giggles I also checked a set of Mafac Racers which also has enough reach. Its literally only like 4 mm of extra reach you need

Well I have a pretty Bridgestone 300 mxte frame that I am thinking of putting 700c wheels on. I got a nice set of mavic rim/campy record hub wheels with the 28" framed Panasonic bike I bought a few weeks ago. The original wheels on that mixte have many rusty spokes and they don't seem worth the time to replace them.
