I've gotten an offer for a Rivendell Romulus in my size, very good condition, pretty much stock, for $1050 with fenders, but no pedals or saddle.
It would be my first road bike, but i like the Rivendell aesthetic and attitude, and about a thousand seems cheap for a Riv, even a used one.
Is this a very good price? I'm asking if it's a 'very' good price since it will be quite a financial hit for me, but if it's a very good price, then i figure i should buy it while it's available, especially since the price of Rivendell's bikes has gone up a lot recently (the Rambouillet costs a lot more than the Romulus did).
Any opinions about the bike would be welcome too. I sort of feel that by buying a 'classic' bike, it won't feel outdated nearly as soon as if i bought a more mainstream roadie, with STI and carbon bits
I also figured the resale value would be higher if it doesn't work out.
I'm not the typical Rivendell guy, i guess, since i'm 25 and was mainly into mountain biking up until now. I guess after having a rather expensive bout of upgrade fever with my mountain bike, i want a road bike that i can feel comfortable with without having the itch to upgrade every last bolt.. Also, i want the road bike so i can go on longish rides, rather than race.

Romulus is a nice bike and at $1050, it's a pretty good buy if it is in good condition. Have you ridden it?

I think the condition is supposed to be very good... the guy seems like a Riv. enthusiast, and from that i'd imagine that it isn't exactly seeing beater bike duty
I haven't ridden it, as it's about 3000 miles away...
