I called the dude, he told me he had a buyer coming over at 6PM and that he'd call me back if it didn't sell, it's 6:30.

I just called, and the bike was still available -- ilikebikes, if you need this one, better contact the seller. I don't need it, but the bike's about my size -- looks like it's not top end, but at least R531 frame tubes. I'd also be willing to pass it on to a BF member (mrmw has first dibs) if I end up with it.

I don't live in Philly, but I have a co-worker who does, and not far from this neighborhood either. He said he's willing to look/pay/pickup tomorrow AM.

But if someone else wants to snag it -- be my guest; no hard feelings.

SingeDebile 04-09-09 06:27 PM

i just left him a voicemail,

Nope, he didn't return my call or email. Oh well, wasn't meant to be.

ohjonnybegoode 04-09-09 06:55 PM

I happened to see the ad ten minutes or so after it went up...called him immediately and told him I could be down his way by 7 p.m., and I'd call him at 6...he said no problem...called at 6 and he didn't answer...left him a v mail and feared the worst. I figured someone here would snag it before I could get down to U City. Oh well...:)

satbuilder 04-09-09 07:33 PM

Based on the interest he gets I'd just about bet my next paycheck he ignores all the remaining calls and you see the ad a week later for over $300.

bboy314 04-09-09 07:37 PM

Ha, I just saw that bike earlier today. I was looking at a different frame the guy was selling, which I didn't end up buying. That Pug was in pretty good shape, too, pity I only had 50 bucks on me (though I guess it couldn't've hurt to offer), but I'm sure it's been snapped up anyway.

fender1 04-09-09 09:51 PM

I called and got no response.

ilikebikes 04-09-09 10:21 PM

got a response, he wants $200.00 for it now.

Tigerprawn 04-09-09 10:24 PM

I'm not surprised. Same thing happened last week to my friend trying to score a Gitane Tour de France.

Thats a bummer. It's one thing to get to the party late, but it really sucks when you actually arrange something and get cut out. I had that happen to me, I talked to a seller in Columbus and told him "I have the cash, I'm coming now and I will 100% buy it." He told me "if you can get here before anyone else". I guess fair enough, it makes for a really fast 2 hour drive.

ah, so now it's an *auction*, is it?
human nature...
still, might be well worth it (in certain locations).

What a jerk, same thing happened with a Basso here. The great thing is the Basso went on ebay and didn't fetch a whole lot.

I sold a fender strat not long ago, got a huge response and had a "waiting list" I sold it for what I listed it at.

He can kiss my sack 200 times!

Tigerprawn 04-09-09 10:50 PM

A couple months ago I called about a $25 Batavus 3 speed. I was all set and scheduled to pick it up and the guy calls me back stating he "got on the internet" and found that the bike was "rare". He wanted $100 for it... Ugh.

mkeller234 04-09-09 11:14 PM

Any honest seller will research the product before selling. Technically they can do whatever they please, but any decent person will usually stick to their word.

I sold a Mike Melton frame a while back and I offered a lower price to a potential buyer. I got a second buyer who really wanted it at the higher price, I gave him the 50.00 off even though he did not know that was offered to some one else. I deal that way because I want to be dealt with that way.

Fidelista 04-09-09 11:17 PM

"!5 lbs" seems a bit light for a bike of that vintage.
