Anyone ever heard of....
 

I recently purchased an early eighties European road bike. The Badging reads "Schweitzer Sarreguemines".
Group is 600EX Arabesque. Wheels are Mavic E 700c. Cinelli 1R stem and Cinelli Giro Italia bars. Blonde San Marco Concur Supercorsa saddle. Navy blue with chrome head lugs, fork and chain-stays. A gorgeous bike.
So far no one has heard of this builder. I'm suspecting it may be of Swiss origin. Anyone know for sure?

Here are some shots.

Sarreguemines is a French town on the Sarre river. The river is the border delineation between France and Germany. On one side it is French and the other side it is German. Historically the town has passed between France and Germany a number of times, most recently passing over to France after WWI. Schweitzer is not an overly uncommon name in the Alsace-Lorraine area of France. The bike is definitely a French bike.

PS: Sarre is the French spelling for the river that is also often known by the German name Saar.

As a young man I spent a year living and working in this area: Sarreguemines, Saarbrucken, Homburg/Saar, Zweibrucken. Sadly, beer, wine (excellent German wines of the Saar/Mosel region) and women were my primary interests in spite of being surrounded by Germans riding bicycles all over the place.

Very pretty bike though.

Just checked the Shimano date codes. Late 1980. Evidently this is a rare bird indeed. When I brought it to the Bike shop in Olympia for cables, tune up and frame tweaking, the fellows wondered aloud "Who is this Schweitzer?" I'll be hanging on to this one... AND, what a nice, sweet ride. Thank you for the comments.
