Few bikes use that size here in the US, so a local bike store almost certainly won't have them. But you should be able to find them online without too much trouble. I think the Schwalbe tires run on the pricy side here, but there are Indian and Chinese bicycles that use the same size, so there are cheap tires out there somewhere. Also check Ebay, maybe Yellow Jersey, maybe the dealers of the Flying Pigeon bikes on either coast.

You gonna eat that?
I got mine from Flying Pigeon L.A. in Los Angeles. They do mail order. I got Schwalbe Delta Cruisers. And the white walls are reflective.

Doh! Didn't notice the "Ireland" part in your ID! Sorry.

Your Dutch bike is similiar to a Raleigh DL-1 Tourist. You might want to contact either classic cycle.de in Germany or one of the Dutch cycle shops to see if they will ship tires. They definitely do stock them.

a late reply, but cheapest 28 x 1 1/2 (635-40) tyres seem to be Spa Cycles, 11 pounds each.

As opposed to 25 pounds from theoldbicyclecompany
I've got some cream delta Cruisers in this size on my BSA back in NZ, and I really like the look and ride. Plus they have the reflective sidewall which is low-key on the cream tyre. So I feel a little safer riding in low light with no modern accessories such as lights or reflectors on this 80-90 year old bike.
