That thing's been listed on here, and eBay so many times. I don't think he wants to sell it. He just wants to catch a sucker.

I think I've found one - how about this - not a lot of money, but it looks like even less of a bike, LOL.

Obviously you've never done any metalworking - a good anvil is a valuable tool, though it's hard to tell the size from the picture.

Well, it appears to be fashioned from a section of railroad rail. I'd estimate the widest dimension of the working surface to be between 2 and 3 inches.

Lately commonly seeing old pieces of junk described as 'touring bikes'. Seems to have superceded the 'ready for fixie conversion' claim.
So, in that vein, here's three bikes in one! City bike, Mountain Bike, AND... It's Great for Touring! Naturally, no pictures....

Not so fast. Here is my next project bike. A Raleigh Tamarack, Mountain Tour edition. While I wouldn't want to ride it across the country, it makes for a good back roads, light touring bike, a commuter, and a hard tail mountain bike.

Hellooooo, Earth to Seller Is Anybody Home???

I've exchanged emails with this person who seems to be living in a universe of one. An asking price of $16,000 for any bike made by Ross--he hinted that the valuation was determined by Sotheby's--is so far divorced from any semblance of reality that I had to share this one.

Art and Sculpture in Steel! Of the 1.3 million units the company sold that year, the master (Tom Kellogg, SpectrumCycles.com) created fewer than 80 of these in 1984; the last year his brilliant design was actually listed in the catalogue as a production bicycle. The luxuriousness of steel is inconsolable and once exposed there is very few rides that will ever hope to compare. Not a racer but Mr. Kellogg's attempt at the finest 'personal ride' every working mad could afford. He was disregarded by other builders, trying to 'commonize' the European designs, perhaps hoping to 'cash in.' He countered that he was only making available what the finest of Europe's builders offered to exclusive racers and wealthy landholders and business captalists. They said he would never outdo them in quality and comparable pricing, making profit unworkable in a middle class society. Ross corp. went into bankruptcy 4 years later.

In all these conceits, they were wrong. Mr. Kellogg created not only better steel, but the finest quality personal ride one could hope for in this life. With the moves of a cat, the comfort of a Duesenberg, the refined shape and styling of a Lamborghini, she rates as one of the finest, most luxurious entertainments a man (or woman) could hope for. Unkowable as she is undefinable; she refuses classification and categorizing. She behaves more like and animal rather than a fixed platform. That being said, understand; she is not for everyone. I've been coursing roads and paths with her for 27 years and I still don't know her. Such is her refusal to seek approval. When women desert you and business partners betray you: She will still be there; unmoved. I like that. So will you.

Lot #65
Incept date: 1984
Mod.-Ser.#508-5915

Note: In consideration of the difficult economic times, a trade will be offered. If an individual is wishing to swap for a vehicle, say a cargo van or truck or suv (i.e., Chevy 1500, Ford F-150 or Explorer types) or vehicles of that consideration, most makes, I will be glad to exchange information. Photos, data, web sites; anything to improve the ease of deciding. No V-8's, European, or diesel will be considered. Thank you.

Clearly a frustrated/out-of-work Ad Agency copywriter, although not a very good one.
My favorite parts:

The luxuriousness of steel is inconsolable (I'd be "inconsolable, too, if I paid $16,000 for this)
Unkowable as she is undefinable (What, exactly, is "unkowable"?)
She behaves more like and animal rather than a fixed platform (Craps on the living room rug?)
the finest 'personal ride' every working mad could afford (I'd be "mad" too, to pay $16,000...)
Such is her refusal to seek approval. (Oh great, a bike with attitude.)
Classic!

Selling an unrestored late-80s Pinarello by referring to the 2007 model - which is now a flat-bar city bike. A coworker looked at it a while ago and said it had some Campy, so maybe she'll get something for it after all.

A couple of years ago, I did a good bit of reading up on anvils. You can buy cheap ones from Northern Tools or Harbor Freight, but they are cast iron and pretty worthless for actual use (I think Harbor Freight did sell a cast-steel model as well, which was higher quality). The higher-quality ones are steel. And I recall reading instructions on making your own railroad-rail anvil, which is supposed to be pretty decent (being steel) if the size will work for you. So it may not be pretty, but is usable and at a decent price for what you get.

This may be a perfectly fine bike at the right price, don't know about that. But I'm curious about how I get that job of "Professional Bicycle Tourist" that this bike was obviously used for.

Edit: The ad is gone, and I don't remember the bike brand, but the ad title was "Professional Touring Bike".

Talk about political incorrectness:

Aluminum Dike Rack for one or two Bikes new in box for Hitch - $99 (Broward)

That one deserves to be in A&S (just to see what bad blood they'd make of it). Or P&R. How stupid do you have to be to make that goof?

Watanabe Japanese track - $1650 (Somerville, MA)

The frame has been crashed, it has a bit of a kink on the top tube, but it's so minor I couldn't really get a picture of it with my cell phone. I won't guarantee it won't fall in two on you when you're riding, but that's the story with most Japanese frames out there! Please do inquire about coming to take a look at the bike.

$1650. I will consider serious offers, but price all the parts of the bike yourself before you make a stupid offer (hint: it will come to more no matter how you try to work it out).

Need I say more?
