appears to be in good condition

This guy reposts this frame every other day. https://denver.craigslist.org/bik/2188834274.html although I will say it appears to have the non-death fork.

I asked the obvious question and am waiting for a reply. The idea that a bike so badly damaged was allowed to leave the Schwinn factory AND a bike shop is nonsense.

Bikes: Too many to list. Raleigh carbon racer (17 lbs.) and fast to a '37 Columbia (17 lbs. wheels alone) Even an Aerocycle (not ridable yet), love the middleweights too.

Good point! It was probably run into a parked car on the morning of Dec. 25, 1967. Of course no helmet then - I wonder if he ever recovered.

My question:

I have never heard of a "factory rake". It appears the bike was in an accident and has a bent frame. How did it leave the factory and a bike shop in dangerously unrideable condition?

His response:

The bike was not in any accident, if it was the front tire, rim, and fork would be a mess. The frame is not bent and their are no signs of ant new welding or painting.

My final reply:

Thank you for the clarification . I had one of these bikes as a kid & wanted my son to have one too. The Fastback is an overlooked Schwinn as you probably know. It would make a great long term investment. The bike does not look to be in rideable condition. Unfortunately, the frame appears to be badly damaged. Whether or not this happened in the factory can't be confirmed. If I was to try and re-sell the bike it would be seen as a damaged piece. Rims can be replaced, and forks can be straightened. Frames are harder to fix.

The best one can think is that whoever he got the poor Fastback from was the originator of this marvelous tale.

Just realized it has the infamous Stik-Shift. Some poor kid's nuts were probably sacrificed in the collision. 44 years later, some guy still has a painful memory.

By the looks of the inside of that BB they painted it to cover up the rust. Maybe they found it at the bottom of a lake?

any one need a go ast Bianchi with upright "moustache" bars?

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bik/2199506645.html

This bike is light weight road bike with mustache handlebars so that you can ride upright and still move fast. I'm 5'8.5" and it fits me fine though it would work for someone a bit shorter too. The frame would've been too small for me without the tall handle bars.

This is a really fun bike to ride. The electra bell and front light are included.

Thanks!

An ad like that is proof that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. The seller most likely has no clue that it's an entry level bike, all he knows is that someone bought a Peugeot something or other on Fleabay for big money so he wants his too. (IE: If a PX10 is worth $800, then a complete low end model has got to be worth at least half that right?)

I'm holding out for the Colnago with a "long narrow racing-style saddle"... you know, the saddle with a chrome sissy-bar at the rear and with tiger striped velour fabric for the top - just like all the US Pro racers used... at age 8.

I suspect this works with a steping or stair climber type motion?
