^ Email him back that because he's a d**k and knows nothing about the relative weights of forks, the price went up to $240 for him.

I hate those guys. Make it sound sh**ty to lower the price. If it's so crappy, why the hell do you want it? Just be honest and say "any chance we could negotiate?" Some people ...

yeah.. my response:

lol.. shocks on a bike actually make it heavier. This bike weighs 28 lbs, and costs $180

Thanks for your offer though

Either he knows what the bike is, and is trying to wrangle a lower price from you - or - he is just looking for an older used bike in the range he can afford.

Either way, its easy to just say, "Thank you for your offer, but at least for now, the price stands at $180".

No need to explain, justify, or attempt to educate. As Nancy once said, Just Say No.

Delete those emails and move on. I don't really care how long my bikes sit on CL. They always sell eventually for the prices I ask. Not everyone is a trash-bin picker trying to get a fixer-upper bargain.

If you want a trash-bin bargain bike than go to the trash-bin and pick it out yourself before doing a total ground-up restoration on it. Good luck with that. My bikes usually have about 40-50 hours of work into them and about $100 or more in new parts and supplies. That's what the buyer is paying for. Comparing one of my bikes to the basket-cases that are on CL and saying "I've seen these same bikes cheaper on CL" is comparing apples to oranges.

I advise them (if I talk to them at all -usually I get this when they are coming to look at my bike) that if my prices are too rich for them to go buy a $50 basket-case and take it to an LBS an see how much they would charge to do a total ground-up restoration and overhaul -then come back and compare prices between what the LBS is charging them to fix up their $50 bike and my restored bikes.

frantik, I could buy your bike five times for the price of this BEAUTY. Dunno if Decathlon is in the States or not, but it's a big sports supermarket in Europe. Amazingly, this POS is priced at 150 MORE than the shop's most expensive MTB offering.

This is a repost of a craigslist ad i posted last night. To my amazement when i went to find it this afternoon i discovered that it had been flagged. I have been pondering it and i can not fathom a logical reason for someone doing such a stupid thing.

Some guy just picked it up. He was extremely psyched about it so that works. Don't have to worry about it getting flagged anymore.

I thought it was just missing the decimel until I read the ad. Some people just take up dead space.

That's hysterical! I like this part of the ad: "ONLY THE HIGHER OFFICIALS AT THE OLYMPICS WERE ALLOWED TO USE THESE BICYCLES..." I think I recall seeing that in the opening ceremonies, very dignified.

I'm thinking about the best way to test this theory. Got some big dogs that can drop a turd the size of sombrero. Just need some little HD stickies.
