This saddle looks a little too "broken in" for my tastes. What do you guys think?

Sure thing, pal. Is there really some six speed freak out there willing to go through all the changes to buy this rusty ole thing and make it work??

Well, maybe it is about the bike, after all. Perhaps someone with math skills can calculate the cadence - let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say he has a 54 x 11.

https://iowacity.craigslist.org/bik/2578522205.html

Selling my raleigh. i don't have the dimensions at the moment. ideal for someone around 5'8 to 5'11 i'd guess. I'm only selling because i'm 6'2 and have always wanted a taller frame. 700cc wheels, quick release seat and wheels. Classic downshifters. 14 speed. Lightening fast. I used to top out with traffic at 75mph on the flats in the burbs, only for lack of gear (probably could of hit 90++). My typical 20mi commute would take 40min, including stoplights, stopsigns, crossings, trains, traffic, curbs, gravel, etc. Rode for touring/commutes, never raced. Rear seatstay was professionaly rewelded once. I put a different chainring on at some point, with i think only 2 extra teeth. Could probably go bigger again if you wanted, or add a 3rd ring. 400obo.

I dig (rear) 3-speed (courier) bikes as much as the next guy, but that price seems a bit...ummm...steep?

Still, I'm intrigued as to what a chrome finder is...perhaps some kind of electronic device for finding the shiny stuff?

This is not strictly a wacky ad -- but I checked through most of the online catalogs and I can't find a Schwinn Collegiate 3-speed to match this one's color, headbadge, mattress saddle, reflectors, and decal graphics. It seems to be a mix of parts. Is this a repaint of a Breeze, perhaps?

Edit: never mind - I see now it is a 1984 model.

Schwinn Collegiate full fender model with Sturmey Archer 3 speed shifter. Champagne color, front wheel hand brake and rear petal brake, Schwinn bee hive spring seat, upright handlebars, original teardrop grips and rubber pedals. Excellent overall condition, Schwinn tires are in excellent condtion, paint is very nice, shifts great. A real nostalgic style Schwinn. Phone 586 792-5331.

it looks almost identical to my friends collegiate which is in my front room, except the color. i really doubt it's a repaint.. there is even the schwinn seal on the seat post, and the yellow sticker near the head tube is also a schwinn sticker

Yes, I did edit my post shortly after I completed it, because that is when I finally saw the 1984 catalog page. interesting color.

I can't tell what kind of bike that is, but those ads where the author seems a little slow are the ones you often see in the "hey look at what I got for $40" threads. Well, most of the time they turn out to be nothing, but occasionally, there's one guy who gets a 1930's track bike and some wooden wheels and a whole bunch of campy nos stuff for $200. But yeah, putting a top speed on a bike is kind of funny.

I'm confused about the hub: It says it's a 3-speed, but the linkage is on the left side of the bike, not the right. I don't know much about SA-5-speed hubs, but is is possible that this bike is actually a SA 5-speed that is missing the right cable and linkage?

I flipped one of those. The color is even worse in person. It's equipped with a Shimano coaster brake three speed hub. Not a bad bike city bike.
