I think you're talking about his BIN price. The bike itself is gorgeous with a matching early Dura-Ace group. The opening bid is a tad high but not exorbitantly so.

Yep, it is a beautiful bike. It's overpriced from the getogo though. No way it's "worth" $1299, when you can buy a new one for nearly the same, w/better components/better everything.

I agree that I wouldn't pay $1299, but at $499 it's a question of the buyer. For a new bike at the $1299 price point, you're talking about a bike with a new 105 group, so I guess I agree with your statement. Is a $499 bike with vintage DA better than a new bike? Well at the $499 price point for a new bike, you won't get a group. You'll get a unmatched set of low-end parts. The vintage DA, if maintained, could last a lifetime. If you could get this bike at $499, then it would be a fair deal, I think. However, this bike wouldn't sell for $499, but something b/w 499 and 1299.

So, I don't think the seller is nuts or an idiot. At the list price, it's OK. At the BIN price, the bike is pricey. Obviously, he is trying to maximize his income.

That looks just like my daughter's old Trek bike which was recalled awhile ago. However the recall was for not having an extra reinforcement piece of metal where the down tube meets the head tube. I can't tell from the picture but I wonder if it was intentionally cut in half (maybe by the dealer) so it couldn't be resold.

Well, I think he is crazy if he thinks he'll get anywhere near the $1299 price for the BIN he wants. Sure, @ $500 it's not that bad of a price, but if you pay anywhere close to a $1000 for it, you're crazy. Most people wont want to keep those components though, they'll want to upgrade, and probaly upgrade the wheels too, now it's closer to that $1299 he wanted. That doesnt make fiscal sense IMO. Just wait till a current/newer bike, with better components comes up for sale, you could probably get it for less than $1300.

Nothing real amusing here.. especially if you have 60 Benjamins burning holes in your wallet, and you have to be the cool kid on the block with a kickback 2 speed.

Nah, it's a Collegiate of about that vintage. The CL page has other pics. He's no worse than the nutjob on eBay with the yellar Varsity frame that he's been trying to sell for months for $200.

We did that

...or just pitched the bike into a slide like the kids that had brakes did. Of course our prayer life and cussing left others confused.

It is hard to tell how good the condition is with the pictures that are put in ads on CL, but that does look to be a very nice and clean Schwinn. The price is really out of line, so I'm sure the person doesn't really want to get rid of it.

That person is on CRACK, if they think that's worth anywhere near the neighborhood of $6K, my advice to him would be: stay out of that neighborhood
