the price aside, his reason for selling is pretty funny given the handle bar positioning.
I sent the guy a message suggesting that maybe he should flip the bars over...

Good grief! Do we now have to grease the cable guide contact surfaces??!! Man, that would ruin my day if one of these got stuck...

I love this thread heres another to add to it yet another seller thinking a Schwinn Varsity is a gem and its in peices and none orignal rough condition.

[h=2]1969 Schwinn Varsity - full resto 90% complete - $75 (NW Denver)[/h]

Date: 2012-12-08, 4:23PM MST
Reply to this post Reply to: jzhgj-3465217833@sale.craigslist.org[SUP][?][/SUP]

This old Varsity is great! I've almost completed a full restoration on the bike - I'm 90% of the way done. The bike was completely taken apart, I've fully disassembled each component, cleaned, and relubed everything - each washer, each bolt, each ball bearing, each cup, cone, race, etc. It will ride like it's brand new when it's finished. Unfortunately I've got way too many projects right now, and I need to let this one go. I just don't have the time anymore. The bike of course has some minor rust spots. I've used a brass wire brush and aluminum foil to clean it up as best as possible.

Here's what's left:

1. Relube the bottom bracket and assemble.
2. Reattached all components.
3. Mount new tires and tubes.
4. Mount new cables and cable housing.
5. Done.

Seriously: assembly, tubes and tires, and cables. That's it.

I will take best offer. This bike needs to get ridden! I've included some pictures of the components so you can see how clean and shiny they are.

Doubtful. I'd say $350 or so might be more like it. The bike is nice, for sure. Decent frame, decent components, nice saddle etc. I'm sure he put close to $750 into it, but it is difficult to re-sell for actual cost.

+1 on it being worth 3-400, but, you may not even get that much for such a giganto frame.

Oh man. I've been keeping my eye out for one of those. I need something on our land to haul water and wood.

Would you really use such a thoroughbred from the muscle bike era for something as pedestrian as hauling wood and water?

I think the wheelset (specifically the rear hub/wheel) and the brooks are they only things worth money on that bike. The picture shows that the frame is 'carbon steel' which I think is just Raleigh's way of saying hi-ten.

750 is way off in dreamland, I'd still probably consider 350 high. He'd be better off just parting it out instead of selling those parts with a huge, low-end frame and other goofy fixie-inspired parts.

"Manga-Lite" frame? Is that supposed to be some sort of plain-gauge Manganese steel alloy? I suppose if you do "save" at least a gram that makes it "Lite"-er....

This is actually a nice example of the Schwinn Town and Country adult tricycle, and even in the economically depressed SE MI area, $150 is a decent price for one. One of these sold in my neighborhood for something like $240 a couple years ago, and it wasn't in as good condition as this one.

Well on a bike like this it is really on 50% or so of the nicer components cost value in my opinion. The frame is junk. The wheels are the only thing on the bike of significant value so I would say it's only worth about $200. It doesn't matter how much the guy spent on the bike ounce you put components on bike like this one and ride it they are used and loose about half there value and worth even less too a lot of buyers becuase they are on goofy build.

I wasn't commenting on whether or not it was a good price. I just thought it was funny to see it described as a muscle bike. It gives me visions of Steve Austin (6 Million $ Man) laying down some black marks with it when he peels out.
