Where to even start? The spacing? The price? "Do your research" with no photos or brand listed? "Fixie lifestyle"
This is a hipster marketing technique.

1) Insult potential buyers, who have never heard of fixed gear bikes before and obviously don't understand the appeal or elemental cachet.
2) Act as if the listing of this piece of ambrosia is a favor granted from on-high before all of benighted humanity.
3) Act entitled to top-dollar pricing, despite the lack of details and/or lack of top-shelf pista parts.

and eventually

4) Watch the item languish in the CL ghetto - until the price comes in line with reality.

A similar marketing technique was used in this case.

Beyond that the bike rides well, the sprokets/gears are perfect, it shifts gears flawlessly, and the frame and handlebars are as straight as an arrow. However, the bike could use new handle grips and new breakpads
Don't forget placement / condition of brake levers, dropped chain, etc.

I think he originally indicated the fork was borked, but yeah that one makes me cringe. All of the flippers in SD kinda piss me off, their prices are off base most of the time. I found 2 interesting bikes in PB and started a convo, and then the seller quit responding when I showed too much interest (without even discussing an offer). I give up!

I was after that one too. I think the guy got inundated with eager responses and realized he priced it too low - I bet we will see it posted again in a couple of weeks at 4x the original price.

i didnt see the listing but if it was "too low" maybe someone came at him with a high offer.. it seems it must have been a desirable bike if 3 members contacted him over it

hah this guy even has haters on CL

Don't fall for this! This guy obviously got ripped off bad if he's selling a $300 conversion with crap parts for $899.
He says it's a vintage Japanese frame. When I asked about it he had no idea. What just because it looks old. It could be a crap huffy for all he knows. Or the bike could be a stolen bike since he doesn't know basic things about it.. BEWARE
Then when I saw the pics he didn't even know it was a conversion. I only know this because I saw the pics and it had verticle dropouts and the tabs for a detailed plus brake tabs
He then says all the parts are very nice , it has stock drop bars and a quill stem
low end Pake crankset which on amazon and e bay go for $55 new
And Weinmann DP18 go for $80-120 of in good condition
then after basic questions started harassing me
Im a bike mechanic and im warning you dont fall for this

[h=2] ***Vintage Motobecane Grand Record Road Bike*** - $500 (Villanova, PA )[/h]
Thanks to the help of a fellow bike enthusiest, this has been identified as actually being a Motobecan Grand Record probably from the 1970's and would have been hand made in France (before Motobecane outsourced their manufacturing to Asia). The frame is very light weight. It has a "Schwinn Chicago" badge that was put on it prior to me buying it. Appears to have been repainted at some point and was decorated with after market decals. The fork has chrome caps and the areas where the tubes connect have quality butting. Also the headset is made of alloy. The handlebars are "Belleri" The derailers, shifters, brakesets and brake levers are all Shimano 600. The saddle is "M Competition" and looks to be high quality leather. The wheels are Rigida and have brand new 700 x 23 Zaffiro tires. Bike has been tuned, lubed, washed and waxed and needs nothing. It has some minor paint chips and the wheels have some dings but overall is in good condition. First come first served, cash only. Please search "kefa" for my other listings. Thank you.

This was in the bikes section of Milwaukee CL today...

I know it's not even bike related but, damn... is that not the worst run on sentence of all time?

That is what we get when you are allowed to post on CL from a smartphone. I like the "I paid 8 hundred bucks for it" BS. I know of no Sony sound bar that sold new for even half that much money.

Just as odd is the fact that he stole his pics from this Ebay auction. Which is available for only $199.
