Jeez, $35k and no mention of the builder other than "Hand built in North Carolina in the '70s"... At least the people who ask the big bucks for a Rene Herse or Confente let you know who the framebuilder was.

He more than likely doesn't know. I mean you can see his extensive lack of knowledge of bike pricing, and of course...REALITY!,,,,BD

I admit I contacted him a while back, and asked how much a month his crack habit costs him lately. No response of course...

Wow. bbcbikes has finally taken a trip over the edge of sanity. Before, his stuff had one displaced decimal point; this one has two.

Reminds me of the old joke about the lemonade stand- a million bucks a glass, but you only have to sell one glass.

I met the owner of BBC this last weekend. He let me into a building I wanted to take pictures of. He seemed to be a personable guy. My brother later bought a new bike from one of his stores. They lowered the price to match a price from where my brother lives in Michigan after checking with the owner. He recognized me from earlier and thanked me for bringing my brother in. One of the sales staff pointed out a early 70s Schwinn World Sport for 14K. There were a lot of 50 era bikes on display up in the rafters. As I think about it now we were also in the used bike store and my brother wondered if his Continental was worth $450 like the bikes in that store. For some reason I did not think of all the posts about the place when I was there. I guess I was just amazed by the overwhelming number of bikes in the two stores we visited.

^At 14K for a world sport, he surely isn't really interested in selling some of the bikes. The 35K bike is nice but he's priced it as if it were gold plated...

So does anyone know the real story with BBC? What is there motivation? It seems to me that eBay is a waste of time if nothing sells? A scan of their eBay history shows very few sales over $100 so I am guessing that the outrageously priced bike ads are just for show, i.e. they really don't want to sell (but will if they find a bidder.

Custom powder coated schwinn world sport 56cm frame, this bike was maticuliously painted this way mind you this is not spray paint. It was baked with a white base then sprayed with different colors then baked again. Everything on the bike is new except the stem. The wheels, tires, tubes, bottom bracket, bars, grips, chain, and crank are all new. I'm asking $300 great bike ready to ride please call or text

I posted on Classic Rendezvous. Dale Brown (CR moderator and shop owner in Greensboro, NC) responded in a few minutes, referring me to the CR web site's RT Jansen page. This bike is shown near the bottom. Apparently, BBC has tried to sell it before.

Have you checked the price of gold lately? Still too high, I believe.

As this bicycle is currently in one of our storage warehouses we can do a bicycle showing by appointment at our 1201 Regent St Location.
All in state sales are subject to local sales tax (WI 5.5%). All bicycle showings are subject to a 25% down payment.

This is fully refundable after the showing is completed if you purchase the bike or decline the purchase.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned that you have to come up with $8,750 just to look at the damn thing.

My hat is off to the guy. I am in awe............

Those BBC prices tempt me to list my World Voyageur for $3,000 and call it "sharply discounted."

"Hecho en Mexico" means it's rare, and therefore worth more? Really?

https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/bik/3907307102.html

"1200 is very cheap and a good price" for a "one of a kind" mass-produced Nottingham-built Raleigh with no details and no pictures.

https://hartford.craigslist.org/bik/3870082257.html

"The bike is professionally treated with an automotive grade clear coat to make this artwork a permanent, durable, and factory grade finish." Hipster speak for "I paid my housemate to spray it with Duplicolor clear."

Reading the overnight entries on our CL I have found a Peugeot mixte being sold as a racing bike that goes for 900.00 but is only asking 350. Seriously.

Are you saying it's been posted elsewhere? Yeah, that bike calc pic is a real hoot. Dang, I want a fast bike like that.

"Price is negotiable. Please buy it. Made in France".

Dang, put that right next to my 1500.00 Super Mirage.

I generally only see these types of ads second-hand. Spotted this one last night:

Trek ladies bike small size - $80 (Franklin)

The wife moved out and left some stuff. Here's her Trek bicycle. The model is 800. No front suspension but in really good shape and a smaller size.

80.00? That's like the wife selling the Vette for 500.00.
