This is classic: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bik/3969064087.html

Cool tape, but when you price it at $15 over the store FOR WHICH YOU PROVIDE A LINK IN YOUR AD, you deserve the the rich reward of an appearance on this thread....

couldn't help myself, so I emailed the guy with great effort to abstain from condescension
and this is what he said:
"IT IS YOURS FOR 30 I LIVE IN SAN RAMON WORK IN SAN JOSE , WHAT ABOUT U"

I might not be able to give a smarm-free response. Any suggestions?

He's asking $30, the link to store says $34.99... confused (unless it was $15 on sale at one point?).

the guy was actually pretty well humored when I told him that I'm in NYC, but I shared the info with pals in the Bay area & we had a good laugh at his testicular fortitude.
So, it's legit. If you're in the area and you need/want some half decent green leather bar wrap for $30, hit him up.

When Gingi posted the add he had it listed for $50. He has since changed it.

in other news...you gotta love these guys who use eBay to just show off their collection.
Rare? Kind of. Interesting? Certainly. $875? I don't think so.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sturmey-Arch...item4abf7fff21

you could probably find a good late 40s ASC3 for less than $100 and a Constrictor sewup for about the same and have a good wheelbuilder lace it up for a grand total of less than $400.

This is like the early days of the vintage American stringed instrument market when guys like Bob Gruhn, Matt Umanov, et al were arbitrarily making up values to otherwise high production guitars they'd picked up at yard sales for next to nothing. It took about 30 years, but nowadays a good, clean pre-1941 Martin or Gibson flattop can bring anywhere between $10k and $100k depending on the model.

Where's my eye bleach?

[h=2]Single Speed/ Fixie *ONE OF A KIND* (Houston TX via Las Cruces NM)[/h]

This Bicycle is a One of a kind functioning piece of Artwork. The bike itself is a 58cm Redline roadbike, model " 925" and was made in 2007. Specifics about the frame and most of the components can be found on Bikepedia.com.

All of the major components, including the frame, fork, rims, crank gear, crank arms, seat post, seat post clamp, stem, headset cups, spacers, chain tensioners, and handlebar have been POWDER COATED custom colors and makes the bike stand out even in a " Critical Mass" ride. It has brand new treads, brand new handlebar wraps, brand new brake cables, brand new cable housing, a brand new saddle and a set of brand new pedals (not pictured) which, along with the custom powder coating job, makes the bike about as close as you can get to BRAND NEW without buying it from a bike shop or direct from the dealer..........which u can't.......... because all the powder coating is completly custom.

Because the bike has a dual rear hub with a free wheel and a fixed gear the bike can be ridden BOTH ways and thus it can be purchased EITHER way.

*For the SINGLE SPEED set up, which DOES INCLUDE the TekTro front and rear Brakes and Levers, the cost is only $550.00

*And for the cycling enthusiast, dare I say purist, the FIXED GEAR set up, which DOES NOT INCLUDE the TekTro front and rear brakes and levers, the cost is better still, at $500.00

Purchase will include documentation from the artist so that the bicycle may be Insured as an art asset.

I could ALMOST like it if everything that's white was made to be black

Also if stem was black and flipped.

I wouldn't agree. The M952 has got to be the best ever, even though it's only 9 speed. When they eliminated the barrel adjuster, the newer, including the 981, weren't nearly as good. Cost reduction at its worst...

Centurion Road Bike - Dave Scott Edition -Light Weight - Pink / Yellow - $488 (SW Portland)

Here is an excellent vintage triathlon road bicycle. This has a light weight frame. The overall condition is better than excellent especially when considering the age. Firm, yet comfortable riding bike. Very fast, excellent riding and shifting bike. This is a 57 cm frame with a 32 inch stand over height. The Ideal rider will be 5'10" to 6'2" tall. Must see in person to appreciate. Call my cell and come have a look.

https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/bik/3992089520.html

-------------------------------------------------------------------

At least he could clean up the wheels(yes, I know they're anodized.....) and hoods, replace the bartape and chain on it, and get the quick releases on the same side, if he is going to ask such a ridiculously high price for this "better than excellent condition" Ironman. I guess he must think the well used tri bars are worth $130. Even in Portland or Seattle, I could buy a nicer shape Turbo for less.

I emailed this seller, and he shamelessly maintained that the near 500 asking price for this bike was a fair price, even if Experts in that sort of shape average 275-350 in this area.

Go ahead and ask an outrageous price for your ride, but at least have the decency to clean it up some.

And please, adjust that sleigh ride seat angle.......(yea, I am anal....lol)

Edit: Btw, anyone notice how that rear reflector is mounted? What good does it do facing forward???? Gotta love the way those brakes are adjusted, too.

We offer two different shipping services for our bicycles; economy and standard.

Economy: With this service all bicycles will be professionally boxed using approved packaging materials (including but not limited to bubble wrap, foam, paper, plastic spacers, cardboard tubes). The shipping cost reflects box sizes that do not meet the minimum shipping specifications for either UPS or FedEx. This option does not include an insurance guarantee or provide protection under eBay buyer protection as the box does not meet minimum specifications for shipping by UPS or FedEx. The minimum specification for shipping a box requires 3" of packing material around the bike itself. This size would make the box too large to ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS.

Standard: With this deluxe shipping option all bicycles will be professionally boxed using approved packaging materials (including but not limited to bubble wrap, foam, paper, plastic spacers, cardboard tubes) as well having a custom wooden crate built for the bicycle. Bikes packed under this option will be shipped in oversize boxes via freight truck. This option includes insurance and is covered under Ebay's Buyer Protection Plan.

Most of us know it's BBC bikes, just from the picture, and secondly the price. We don't even have to click the link. One day that guy will go out of business, and a TON of nice bikes will hit the market at a decent (and fair) price. He has gone from high prices, to insane prices, to dance around naked in a public park, A number one certified looney tunes prices. It's only a matter of time now.,,,,BD

He reminds me a little of the Tom Waits song... Step right up...

I'm not familiar with the seller and I just posted the bike as a bit of humor as even I thought the price was out of line. I'm not a vintage bike person but I thought this was interesting. But I'm not surprised that some folks here are familiar with the seller.
