I can't understand why everyone gets so bent out of shape over a Raleigh super course, It's not like there a rare high quality road bike. They're bike boom 531 front triangle junk from a time when Raleigh was really starting to put out some stinkers. If you have one of these and love it, great. but I don't think anyone is going to a confuse it with "classic or vintage" bike. Don't get me wrong I love cheap bikes. I just don't get the drama over someones repurposing of them, hideous as the results may be.

Here's a Grail find for mtnbke:
https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hn...991268237.html

The ad sez 66cm, but it is actually 68.5cm or 27" with canti's.
Very rare bike indeed.

Wait- didn't the ad for the neon fixie in central NJ say it had a carbon fork?

Likewise, the guy at CMU said his bike had a carbon fork as well.

Is this some kind of new hipster marketing technique?

You can't afford a real carbon fork, so you just say your bike has one, because that's what all the cool kids' bikes have?

High carbon steel isn't carbon fiber. Maybe it's just me but it seems as though cyclists with a smattering of knowledge would be able to pick up on that fact just by looking at the pictures.

Then again, it's CL, after all. Maybe they're just that ignorant.

Acually the bike has some tell tale signs of already having some rather poor frame work done, note the black paint trying to cover up god knows what. But at The $55 would consider buying mostly for the stem if good worth more than the bike. If you look close the bike looks to have has most of Raliegh branded SR, Suntour VX components group. Hell if it was local I would buy it.

No, it was the fact that he was acting like Super Course bikes were a pile of junk, not that it was listed here falsely as one?,,,,BD

Of course it's not the first time I have seen flip flopping here. There's a multi page thread here about this one model that has been going for years, and people go on about how much they love them. However, if someone posts one they're planning on buying people will say things like yeah it's only worth $50-$100 so don't pay a whole lot. I guess it's a love/hate relationship, but I happen to be on the love end of the spectrum. Got to be, since I own 5-6 of them.

Nope, I didn't know there was a roadie forum. & hey if you like super courses that's great. You have a bunch, even better. But I still say it's like having a bunch of VW rabbits. Yeah, there kind of cool but if you want to spray paint flying monkeys all over them I can't see why anyone should complain about it. If you put them on Craigslist I don't think people are going to throw up in there mouths because you destroyed a classic or vintage VW.

No, they are not rare, but neither are they "junk". They are marketable, though, and I stand by my comment about "more profit if he left it original". After accounting for the price of the new wheels, fork, etc. as well as the powder coat job, I doubt that he'll make much at all.

Are we talking about the made-badly-in-Philadelphia Rabbits from the bad hair era, or the more recent relabeled Hecho en Mexico ones? Hard to keep them straight.

I'm with the Dude on this one. There's a part of one that dies inside when hipsters practice their irony on old bikes.

Must be a trainer. I definitely read it as 'Stand where you can. Ride in your house' though. It'd more fun that way.

I just went through two or three days of talking to a seller with a shortie mtb stem. It was like listening to the who's on first. Him claiming that it should fit my handlebar and never giving a clear answer if the clamp was 35mm, or 31.8. I finally told him that the clamp is either 35mm, or 31.8, and it can't be both. He responds with the internet speak of SMH (shaking my head) I said. "I'll order one online, thanks." Some people are just dense as a block of concrete. My patience wore thin, .,,,,BD

Clueless: VG condition, $200 for a Le Tour? Needs tubes and tires, dropped chain, where are the clipless pedals? I paid $60 for a Le Tour II Mixte last week.
