The seller still will not listen to reason. I've tried, failed, to communicate some sense to him. He insists, despite the evidence, to continue with his listing as-is. I've washed my hands of it....

Perhaps it's the way you said it. I sent him the following:

From: Me
To: random-thinker
Subject: Details about item: -gmt- sent a message about 1925 Raleigh Bike, Nottingham, England #261330798556
Sent Date: Nov-22-13 17:45:46 PST

Dear random-thinker,

This is a pretty nice original Raleigh Sprite. It is probably an early 1970's example. You can do what you want, but are you sure you want to represent this as a 1925 bike? You would end up losing an ebay dispute and would probably end up losing money and time. I'd recommend googling images for "raleigh sprite". You can then compare what you see against what you have.

Good luck to you. It really is a nice bike and so it would be a shame to get mucked up in a dispute.
He replied "OK" and now the ad is down.

Yep, I bet he had many responses and so decided to do some research. He should have done it before he listed that bike, but at least he's doing it now.

I don't know why on earth anyone would pay for a saddle like this one, hang it on the wall, and brag about it:

Well, they're also selling a bike with a stay-mounted kickstand for $400...
EDIT: Wow, it comes stock with that. Quality. Are those bar-mounted friction shifters?

If you look closely you'll see "Made in USA" on the thumb actuator.

Yeah; helping a little is that in 1897 that particular symbol wasn't yet burdened the way we know it now.
I still wouldn't cross the street to get it for free, though.

I wonder if the patent is for the basic bell design and the bell itself is roughly 35 years younger than the seller wants us to believe.

I think if you had a pre-1930's bicycle this would make a fascinating 'conversation piece' addition. The apparent age of the bell, and the Chinese -styled border around the swastika make it fairly obvious that it predates the use of that symbol by the Nazis and was meant as a good luck charm. Certainly not something appropriate to put on a newer bike, but if it were presented in its historical context...

Picked up a 1984 Centurion Elite RS today for my girlfriend. Tange II CroMo tubes, No scratches or dings, gold ano araya wheels and matching dia-compe levers. Brand new Kenda tires and specialized saddle (not sure which one yet need to do more searching. Sugino AS cranks and Suntour Cyclone II derailleurs. Post pics later, but what are your thoughts on price... we will see if we overpaid. Looking at the chainrings, I would guess very low miles, likely a garage bike that rarely got used.

Sounds like a nice bike, but this isn't really the right place for your question. You would get more awnsers in the valuations subforum. FWIW I got a Nishiki Prestige with same frame tubing and similar components(same bronce anodized rims and Cyclone 2 stuff) with the drop bars having been replaced with some weird riser bars recently on CL up here in NE Wisconsin. The guy was asking $100 and I traded some used car audio stuff worth about that amount. I feel like I got a great deal on that.
