Plus I'm 90% sure the bike isn't even Schwinn even from the bad pic. I doubt a good pic would help this one much.

Interesting...if this bike were in Atlanta, I would be on my way to get it...from what I see, the $80 would be easy to recover. It has a set of Barcons on it...that would probably get you at least $50, I am sure the rest of the components would get at least another $30...if they compare in anyway to the barcons...and then you still have the frame and wheels...to either donate to the local Co-Op...or become a "fixie/ss manufacturer!

And if you give it to the Co-Op it won't matter that the fork is bent.

I think the seller was simply stating he won't call what he thinks is long distance based upon a different area code. Did you get the Lotus?

In my years of looking at bikes, I've seen some odd saddle/post arrangements, but this one is indeed specialized:

I didn't contact the seller. I can imagine how the chat might go. I ask some detailed questions, he says I don't know you have to come look at the bike. Lotus made some pretty low end bikes, maybe some better ones I dunno but most likely the seller means it has 27" wheels. A few months ago a friend gave me a Lotus with 700c wheels and Shimano Exage parts. After putting effort and about $30 into it it was worth about $120.

T-Mar on A Sutter, c/o another post. I restate that I would buy that one, even just for the sake of having something from such a small company. Plus it has that French aesthetic.,,,,BD

Sutter was founded in 1896 by August Sutter. Circa 1973 it was run by his grandson and was a relatively small company with about 40 employeees. They produced a full range of bicycles, including a Super Competition model comparable to the peugeot PX10.

The bicycle in question sounds like a Sutter Sports or Sports Deluxe. They were about equivalent to a Peugeot A08 and UO8: Hi-tensile steel frame, steel cottered crankset (Solida if I recall correctly), Simplex Prestige derailleurs, CLB Racer brakes and Atom/Normandy hubs (quick release on the Deluxe version) laced to steel Rigida rims.

Workmanship on the samples I've seen was good, but quality lapses were quite common during the boom for most European manufacturers, so I wouldn't be suprised if things like paint and brazing weren't perfect,. However, being a small, family owned company they should have had closer control over quality than a large company like Peugeot. I've never ridden one, so I can't comment on the ride but I suspect it would be comparable to a U08. Even cosmetically, the bicycles the bicycles were reminescent of Peugeot, though the decals were slightly more restrained. They were not from the Gitane/Jeunet foil decal school of thought. About the only area that they really deviated from Peugeot was with their prefence for CLB brakesets. I guess you have to do something to distinguish yourself from the big players.

90's style TT seatpost. It has NO purpose being on a race geometry road bike. ESPECIALLY without a set of aero bars to at least attempt to look "right". Completely different schools of geometrical thought. At least 27.2 seatposts are as common as dirt, so fixing the problem should be easy.

The pedals are pretty dismal also. Look Keo Easy, non adjustable spring tension. I used a set for a few weeks, and stopped when the weak spring allowed my inner right heel to contact the spokes on the rear wheel. Ruined shoes, and bruised pride. Keo Plus are much nicer quality, I have them on my PH10.,,,,BD

[h=2]SUPER NICE MIYATA ONE HUNDRED RACING BICYCLE WITH MANUAL GEAR - $149 (DURHAM, NC)[/h]You can see from my sig that I love Miyatas. But $149? A bit steep. You would think the seller could go ahead and remove or mayble even tape up the cut bar foam. I guess what really makes me lose interest is the fact that it's manual. An automatic may be worth $150, but not a manual.
