Identity crisis? On the bright side, this bike is capable of bouncing around planets so they named it "rocket hopper"... https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/bik/4233763574.html

Why do people even bother to take pics for ads when they're this terrible?!?

[h=2]1982 Schwinn World 10spd - $225 (Coeur d'Alene)[/h]

1982 Schwinn World

21" Downtunbe, 22.5" Top Tube. Short reach due to mtb bar. I'm 5'9" and it fits great. Probably work for anyone 5'6"-5'11"

I've done quite a bit to this bike to give it the modern comforts needed for serious commuting, while maintaining the bike's classy 80's styling.

Upgrades
-MTB low-riser bar slimmed down, with Serfas bar ends
-Cannondale road seat
-Recently replaced Chain, DiaCompe Brake pads, Cables, CST long-life tires

Gotta love the friction shifters on the goose-neck stem, topped off with nothing lesser than Zebra bar-tape.

These old steel frames are hard to beat, ride quite impressively. No dents or dings, just scratches and chipping to be expected on a 32 year old steed.

$225 cash

Also gotta love that only 3 1/2 of those bb combinations could be used without needing to purchase additional bolts.

Thanks for the link to that thread It was a great read, and I now know more about Canopus bikes. That dropout pic from the CL ad was pretty scary though.

Yes, that thread was a great read. He turned out a beautiful restoration. I've always wondered why more vintage bikes don't have contrasting paint to highlight the shape of the lugs. If I had a lugged bike instead of just a tig-welded cromo CrossCheck, I'd want everybody to know it!

Bad pix, but worse price. I just picked up an all original World (less one crank arm) for $20, and I was concerned that I paid too much.

Can't tell about the cups, but it looks like less than 10% of those spindles are usable. BTW "Con sfere da 3/16" means nothing more than it uses 3/16" bearing balls.

Various years of Schwinn bicycles starting at $100 each and going up call or text xxxxxxxxxxx
...imagine what they might cost apiece if they were Schwinns, instead of the lower end knock off shwinns.

Even if there is something potentially restorable in there, the condition and market would dictate maybe $100 for the lot, not $100+ each!

I was hoping the miserably dim picture would keep others away long enough to nab this $100 Raleigh Super Course, but predictably I got a reply email the next day telling me the bike had been sold. It's amazing to me how long the bad deals languish on the Minneapolis Craigslist but the bargains get snapped up lighting quick. Oh well- I'm telling myself that it was rusty and the Brooks was shot :]

Spokane craigslist has been barren of anything good for quite a few months now. The only thing I've seen was a Fuji Opus III for 15 dollars. I called and texted right after the ad was posted, and didnt get a response until 2 days later saying it was gone.

I would say $50-75 for the early Stingray and maybe a $75-100 for the late 40's Chiefton. The 2nd and 4th bike in the bunch the rest are pretty much wearthless.

No way this one is even close to original or complete missing parts fenders safety disks reflectors, light?. Wheels are wrong top shifter and rare Bullhorn bars are gone lousey make shift replacement. Bad paint iffy frame both rare for true Schwinn and Based on pic not even sure it is Schwinn. Honest value $40.

It IS a Schwinn, and worth around $80-$100 in that condition, wrong bars and all.

How about a $350 Raleigh with stem shifters?

https://houston.craigslist.org/bik/4280305831.html

Or a $450 Bianchi fixie with Denali tires and no wrap?

Definitely a Schwinn frame, the blended joints and integral kickstand are a dead giveaway. Have a 60's Typhoon just like it hanging in the back garage. Other brands also used the thin blade forks but by the 60's Schwinn was about the only one left. It's "most" of a Schwinn and I agree with the rest of your assessment, but $40?! Guess I'm just cheap, I wouldn't pay that much for that mess. I don't understand how people get the idea those are made of gold, they're EVERYWHERE! They are not rare, especially in that deplorable condition. I know guys that have them in that condition piled up like fire wood waiting for the big spenders to pull up and offer them a fortune for them. They've been waiting a long time....... If somebody pulled up and just had to have mine I'd probably give it to them if I was in a good mood.

So many things wrong here that it degrades one's faith in humanity.

A simple eBay or Craigslist search would have told this person that the bike was not worth even fifty dollars. This says nothing about the common-sense of $150-aught to ship a bicycle cross-country (particularly when better bikes could be had for far less money - just by going to a bike shop in town). Nice photography, too.
