Here's a older Trek 4300 in "excellent" condition with a 425.00 asking price. Notice the attention to detail keeping the bike clean. Even if the owner dropped two bucks at a car wash it would look substantially better...

They seem to have several bikes for sale, I think used, but generally good condition. But, also asking high prices.
eugene for sale "bob donuts" - craigslist
2009 Schwinn Madison

Although, they are posting under "By Owner" rather than "By Dealer" (which is probably best in the smaller markets).

Most shops put a small sticker on their bikes.
This ship seems to put their logo as large as the manufacture logo.

1949 may put it fairly old, but there are a LOT of Sturmey Archer 3-speeds out there.

I suppose if someone is restoring a classic, they may wish to get the right hub. But, as has been mentioned, there are very few 3-speed bikes worth $1000... So it is hard to imagine a single wheel woudl be worth anywhere close to that.

Perhaps that is the problem with the classic market, wading through the old crap vs the true classics.

Hang around the Thrift Stores long enough, and one can surely pick up a nice 3-speed for $25.

Alas, that's not out of line for an ASC hub. I wonder if it includes the shifter?

That kind of reminds me of this poor guy in Alaska, who bought a 98/99 Ford truck at this one dealer. The dealer was DRILLING holes in the front fenders below the Ford emblem, to mount their dealer emblems. He removed the emblems, but there were 2-3 1/4" holes with rust around them, underneath. The dealer refused to fix the holes, that was the last I heard. Hopefully they're not doing this practice now. If someone is paying 30 grand for a new truck, they should have the choice whether or not to advertise your dealership.

BTW, it sounds like the owner has a Donut shop, when he really wanted to open a bike shop instead.

When that happens, you simply refuse delivery of the vehicle and stop payment for it. Failing that, you sue their ass for damages and publicize it. That's the quickest way to stop the practice.

He wasn't too concerned with the emblems at first. He had been paying on it 6 months to a year, when he decided they had to go. Imagine the feeling when you think an emblem is kust stuck on, only to find they drilled holes in your truck the second it hit the dealer?,,,,BD

I wouldn't call it vintage, but guy has kept me laughing.

Raleigh Grand Sport Road Bike bicycle heat treated aluminum alloy

He started at 500. Got an offer of 300, which is way more than I would pay. Then he lowered it to 350, but last week he raised it to 600. Now he's back to 350 and using the same message he used the last time he lowered it. It's been on CL for at least the last 3 months.

Bet it will sell, but not at that price. Maybe $800-$1200 A lot of us middle-aged guys wanted one and couldn't have it in our youth. Crappy bike, cool collector piece.
