Frankenbike Frankenbike - $350 (Durham) First things first... this bike is not something you want to ride in its current condition. Considering both aesthetics and comfort. SOOOOO. Do not think you're buying a bike that you can ride tomorrow. My good friend's ex-boyfriend "built" this "awesome" bike for her. She was super proud of it, and all of her friends (me included) just agreed that it was great because that's the easiest thing to do. Now that she has bequeathed it to me, I can be honest. And in all honesty, this bike BLOWS. The parts are great, and anyone who is into building/reselling might be in for an awesome deal. I just want to make it clear to anyone looking for a commuter... This is not it. So yeah, this bike blows as a whole. But it has some awesome parts. I am not a pro at bikes and also not a pro at Craigslist. So I'm going to list the parts of the bike that I am sure about. Feel free to email me for pictures or to ask questions, but just be prepared for me to be confused about what you're asking. Heh heh. SPECS! (do they even say that for bikes?) -1993 Specialized Allez frame with a dent on the down tube. This frame came from a dumpster at one of your LBSs. Can measure if needed, haven't yet. -Surly *ULTRA NEW* hubs. Flip-flop on the back. Regular on the front? Both are Ultra. New. -Velocity Deep V wheels. White spokes, blue nipples. If you're thinking wtf, why would you pick those colors... we're in the same boat. Rims are white. Extra spokes and lovely blue nipples come free with your purchase -Trek OCLV carbon fork. That has been threaded. A threaded Trek OCLV carbon fork. Also it's blue (just in case the color is the major concern here and not the threading) -Pretty sure the pedals are Shimano. Also pretty sure the left pedal and the right pedal are not the same pedal. Whoops. -The brake levers are Cane Creek! You can tell by the lizard thing that's on them. -Cinelli MASH bar tape, white. This "bike" was ridden about 4x, so the tape's in good shape and not super dirty. -Some kind of white saddle. A friend affectionately referred to it as a "**** saddle." Not comfy. But comes with the bike. -Drop bars. I know nothing about them beyond the fact that they are drop bars. -Brakes are Shimano Tiagra?? -Free Specialized floor pump!! (Presta valve) -Free unopened Kryptonite cable lock!! -Free U-lock with keys! (Streetwise STD - Trek by Kryptonite - opened but never registered, I have both keys) -Free Bontrager 700 x 18c-23c tube! So yeah. Now you understand why Frankenbike was the only appropriate title. $350 OBO. Get this thing out of my sight. Can deliver on Sundays generally, other times can be arranged. Add $20 if you can't meet in Durham. |

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNj...0bg~~60_57.JPG Only $4 grand. Not so original...The tires have been replaced and seat post was red anodised. I tripled my money when I sold it for $90 |

Ha, yep, but not looney like that guy
|
The problem with those old "MTBs" is that they were made with mostly road bike parts, and just weren't made for the abuse that an MTB would take. So, ride at your own risk of it smashing flat on the first bump.

And here's one in worse condition for only $2500 *more*

I can't get over how weirdly large these drop bars look. Also they want a lot of money for this, but by now I expect to see the Bridgestone tax.
[h=2]Bridgestone X0-2 - $650 (Saint Paul, MN)[/h]Bridgestone X0-2 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=449018 Up for sale is a rare Bridgestone X0-2 cross bike. It's a small frame ( fits someone 4'11"-5'4") I believe it's a 1992. It has the triple butted tubing that Bridgestone was known for back in the day. This is a light bike and handles beautifully. It has the original components except for a replacement nito stem and cork tape. The frame has a few dings in the paint but for a 22 year old bike its a beauty and quite collectible Respond to this email to come by and take a look. |

Bridgestone X0-2 - $650 (Saint Paul, MN) Bridgestone X0-2 http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...8&d=1430711666 Those almost look like 24" wheels, although perhaps the road tires on the 26" makes it look small. |

It is beyond me why people will buy the smallest frame that exists, then add a foot long stem extender. Although, perhaps it is better than those who turn their handlebars upside-down. |

Another one of those inexplicable "you've tried the drink, now try the bike" things that pop up on Craigslist. Take a bottom-tier dual suspension BSO, slap a beverage label on it and profit! Bonus leg and foot in the frame. Maybe they were drunk when they were taking the photos. Could explain the vertical camera orientation?

This may well have been a promotional item that the seller picked up somewhere. It wouldn't be my choice... but there are some people who like beer liquor logos on their bike. At least it isn't a car... which could be a police magnet  |
racing bikes for sale
I love it. Not 1 but 2 great bikes for $500. I don't think either bike even sells for $200. |

This looks like a cheap 70s bike boom and nowhere in the same universe as the asking price. But check out the shifters. Now, if it only came with fuzzy dice....
