Bike Raleigh 27" good - $70 (Hennepin)

https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/h...053636873.html

Bike good conditions

*Appears to be a 1983 Schwinn Traveler

Just one of those Raleigh-made rebadged Schwinns. SUPER rare! Would make a sweet fixie if you cut off all the braze ons.

Another funny Raleigh.. looks to be a 71ish Gran Sport, but they have it listed as a Competition. I sent the seller a note about it, haven't heard back yet.

Just got a reply from the seller, Still claims it's a Competition. I'm not saying he is wrong, it certainly could be the way Raleigh handled QA back then. However, the seller's argument was the GS had chromed rear stays and this one does not. If the top tube said "Competition" I would believe him, however because it's not there i'm thinking something is up.

I have a '70 Competition, black with chromed lugs. Same thing on the top tube decals but a bit worse, so faded as to be barely readable. Wonder if it's a generic issue for that time frame?

My favorite part: the seller calling a >1 cm crack in the rear rim "very small."

I cleaned up the identical bike for a friend last year. His had the barely legible "competition"written towards the front of the top tube. He said he bought it new in 1971.

best thing is that with several hours of work cleaning it up, you could sell it for twice.. yes twice! the money you paid.

doubling your money to a whole $2!

I bought one of these. Just to further muddy the waters the lettering on the top tube said "Grand Sport Competition."

Sorry. I repainted the bike a couple years ago as it was heavily rusted. I couldn't find the correct decals so settled for "Grand Sports."

Here's a couple current pictures.

It's a Competition. The seller is correct. The Gran Sport uses a claw. The Competition has Zeus dropouts with an integrated hanger. This has the latter. The Competition wasn't listed in the catalogs around 1970-1972. It came in purple and blue, white and blue, and black. I have not seen a blue and white like the Gran Sport.

I think the tubesets used for the Competition and Gran Sport may have been exactly the same.
