Where do you hold the leaf blower when riding?

Nice restoration, but that is the problem with doing a $200 restoration on a $50 bike

Darth Lefty 05-01-17 02:34 PM

It's a pulse jet. They need a blower to start, since they have no reciprocating parts you could hook up to a starter. Once it's running the pulse sucks open the reed valve.

Also, they are catastrophically loud.

Fuji Special Road Racer - $100 (17 Lockwood Dr)

"This bike has been my commuter/single mode of transportation or the past 8 months. I bought it for $200 on Craigslist in September 2016. $100 is a fair price for a completely functional road bike. It's a great 1970's road bike frame. It's very light and durable. It has a single break on the front. The back wheel is set to one-speed, but it has an option to ride fixie. I believe it is a 56cm frame, but I am a 6' tall male and it is perfect for me. The seat height is adjustable so there is room to adjust the height."

"Bike has obviously suffered some sort of frontal impact that has bent the fork backward. Metal fatigue being what it is, fork will eventually break off at the steerer tube.

This will leave you, the rider, astride a unicycle (for a brief instant, anyway).

As you sail over the handlebars, remember, you've been warned!"

https://charleston.craigslist.org/bik/6113023765.html

(Twasn't me; one of thee?)

(Also, buckling of top and down tubes appears to be present, or at least there are dark lines where they oughtn't be.)

I paid 700$ for this custom build bike

I will accept 170!

Its really thrashed!! Both wheels should be trued, left downtube shifter has snapped in half, left break is out, both brake pads should be replaced, also has lots of scratches. But if you can come by to see it that would be awesome thanks!!!
Really selling it!

This looks like a great deal......if you want a 25" early '80s Bianchi that has probably been hanging most of tha last 36 1/2 years. ONly $350 for this gem but it very likely needs $100+ of work and parts to get it running again. There is something funky with the graphics too. https://bend.craigslist.org/bik/6113474447.html

bought this Bianchi in 1980 new. It was quite the bike back then. It has been hanging in the garage for years and I never ride it anymore. It would be great for someone who wants a old Bianchi in nice condition. Or it would be fun hung up in a bike shop for a nostalgic feel.

'fabric scoop saddle'? Does he mean Brooks Cambium? 'I'm holding on to the Brooks lol' -- is he saying 'there was a leather Brooks on it, but I'm keeping that so I put this Cambium on there for you' or is he saying 'I paid $100 for this Brooks Cambium saddle in the picture, just letting you know I paid $100 for it, because you can't have it!'?

Not sure what the thinking was behind the ad

Pretty sure the bar tape and Brooks are being sold separately.

The photo is a perfect "it looks great from 10ft" picture, too!

Super strange.

Odd ad
$170+$30+$100=$300 which is listed at top.

Looks like it could be an easy tune-up, but expensive if paying shop rates

I route my cables differently, so I'd do my own taping.

About $10 per bike. Could probably strip and eBay the lot and double your money.

Or ship it to a restoration business in Africa. Charity?

Hopefully not stolen.

Dunno... I didn't exactly take a close look at that photo but it's 100% racks and fenders. I'd guess they're used / abandoned Dutch bikes imported, and that's how they came off the container. Could have gone to Africa already I suppose.

Fabric is a brand of saddles. Scoop is one of their series of saddles.

Fabric | Saddles

Listed as "Falls Church"

Is that a church? Perhaps they had a charity project that flopped.

Odd rounded racks and lights. You may be right that the bikes came from Europe.

If I was sending/donating to Africa, I'd ship as-is and hire locally to repair. Have tires and tubes shipped direct from China to destination.

Falls Church is an independent city of roughly 12,000 wealthy souls about 8 miles due west of the White House in Northern Virginia. It has the distinction of having the lowest level of poverty of any independent city or county in the country.

The bikes were probably acquired months ago, (in anticipation of a different election outcome), to sell to the State Department or an NGO or some other entity as part of a foreign aid package. The deal was likely nixed by the current administration.

(Entirely speculation based on my decades of experience in DC. (The bit about the bikes; the Falls Church stuff is fact.))

okane 05-03-17 07:11 AM

I love treasure hunts. If I had the space I would definitely go for a look see. Finding just a couple of winners would pay for the lot although there may be a lot of crush damage due to method of storage. Or rust from being outside.

Or they could mostly be wally world specials.

Who knows, but picking thru the lot would be the fun part......shipping and storage not so much.

Bianchigirll 05-03-17 07:18 AM

Fall Church? Ain't been there in years. That was the last leg of three stop TJ MAxx run we used to do. After unloading I would go over to the Old Country Buffet for lunch sometimes

Nice pile of bikes. I wonder if that was part of that Bikes not Bombs movement
