I hope that dude wasn't fully unclothed when he took those pictures. Those pixels smell of beer.

It's about time!

In the past I've commented on this 'Bluebook' thinking its questionable and at least we now have proof.

I did have a 2012 Raleigh Clubman for sale which was a display bike that had less than 10 miles on her.
That guide quoted it around or less than $500 and a potential buyer offered $300!

Also, I've sold bikes in the frozen north and the sold prices were more than the guide so I don't know how they based their prices.

Anyways, nice to see someone showing their true colours. Black.

"BICYCLE BLUE BOOK is an EBAY store that tricks you into believing your bike is not worth much and they turn around and sell it for twice to three times as much on EBAY. They have partnered with Performance Bikes and other bike shops to get your bike so they can resell at the "RIGHT" price. Above is what happened to me. The trade-in on MY 2007 full carbon Fuji Team RC bike with 10 speed Ultegra was only $280 at Performance Bikes with a "Private Party Value" of only $312 ("GOOD" CONDITION). They got my bike and they are now selling it for $614 with $75 shipping on EBAY. That bike cost me over $3500 new. 10 speed Ultegra level Carbon bike are currently selling for $700 to $1000 on EBAY. I just did not want to deal with shipping a bike, but I should have did some research before turning my bike in at Performance Bikes.

Above is the actual bike that I traded in and the auction where they are re-selling it on EBAY. The other pictures are other examples about how ridiculously far off the "VALUE GUIDE" is vs. what the bikes are really worth.

Tell all of your friends!!!! I understand that they are a business, but manipulating a "Value Guide / Blue Book" for their financial gain is just dirty business. You can safely assume a bike is worth about double the price they report. This will factor in the reality of real-world demand because people don't want to pay 100% retail on a brand new bike.

DON'T BELIEVE THE BLUE BOOK PRICING!!! Look at EBAY's "COMPLETED ITEMS" for the REAL value of a bike you are buying or selling. You will find that bikes really DO NOT depreciate much. In fact, older bikes have much better components. Just look at the new Shimano / Campy 11 speed stuff. It all has such thin teeth on the gears and chainrings that wear out twice as fast as a quality 9 or 10 speed groupset with meaty gears and chains. Brand new frames are not made nearly as well either.

If you can buy or sell your bike for 1/3 to 1/2 of the original retail of that bike, you are getting / paying the right price. If you really want a particular bike, go ahead and pay 3/4 of its original cost. You will still save a ton of money compared to buying it brand new at the bike shop. You can get a higher component group or maybe even get a nice carbon fiber frame for the cost of an the bike shop's entry level bike. Also, bikes really don't wear out unless you are putting 2000 plus miles a year on it. A close inspection will obviously show if a bike has been taken care of and how much it was ridden.

Again.....TELL ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS!!!! They may be missing out on making money when they need to sell their bike or they may be missing out on a great deal because most sellers already know what their bike is REALLY worth and they would be foolish like me to sell it for less."

I have to say that I've bought 2 kids bikes from them shipped for about their good condition price and I felt both were better than good condition and it was about fair market value compared to what else I'd seen on eBay after not finding anything other than big box BSOs locally. A bit less than a third MSRP shipped for 3-6 year old bikes in good working condition (one needed pedals and the other will need new tires sooner or later). Probably not a great deal, but I wasn't unhappy with what I got for what I paid and I got to stop scouring listings for 20" and 24" bikes.

I wouldn't assume the ebay seller bicyclebluebook has any relationship to the Bicycle Blue Book website, unless someone has some other facts.

I think the point is that the people trading them in are being taken advantage of by low balling, then they sell them for way closer to FMV and come out smelling like a rose. As always "buyer beware" and in these case's the person trading in.

Not Good With Numbers?

Lemond custom "STEEL" road / touring bike (Reynolds 631 / Shimano 105) - $500 (Chesapeake)

"Forget paying thousands of dollars on a custom steel frame. This is a Reynolds 631 frame which is an incredible material to ride. You get the ride quality of a steel frame and the weight of an aluminum/carbon bike. Bike is in great condition and is race ready today. Has a very nice set of Bontrager Race Lite wheels with quick release skewers. Bike is in excellent condition and has a complete Shimano Ultegra drivetrain. Steel is the real deal. Bike has all the frame points to turn it in to a touring / adventure bike. Bike is about 57cm.

Comes with free clipless or standard pedals. Free lifetime adjustments and repairs minus the cost of future repair parts is also included with this bike. Enjoy a top quality bike with peace of mind that is priced much less than brand new entry level bikes with no warranty.

This bike will save you a ton of time and energy on your next race or ride.

Buy nice so you don't have to buy twice!!"

"condition: like new
make / manufacturer: Lemond
model name / number: Reynold 631"

https://norfolk.craigslist.org/bik/d...451749589.html

(The title touts 105, and the copy and bike have Ultegra. The ad has three photos of the "853" sticker. Precisely which "frame points" allow it to be a tourer? And it looks more like a 54 than a 57. If one wants $500 for a bike, the least they could do is get it right?)

I've had nearly as many of various types over the years, but I was a rep and some were samples. Mitch looks like a pro, or maybe he has a fetish. I think I'm down to four or five. Maybe six, come to think of it.
