Always a great selling feature that will bring the prospective buyer in really fast-2 flat tires.

Not even brand new for that much. The top of the line Rockhopper (comp) was about $550. That one was about $375ish. I think that the seller confused it with the Stumpjumber (maybe)

This one will be a load of trouble:

https://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/bik/1507135662.html

Carbon fiber round seat post in excellent condition. Standard size to fit any road bike with round seat post. Retail is $150.
Imagine what will happen if it isn't 27.2?

I don't think that's too wacky for Portland. The pictures were taken with an apple computer hence the mirror image.

My dad went out to pick this up for me. OK, Fort Wayne is no bicyclists' mecca, so I assume (and my dad assumed apparently) that $175 was the "price", and that bargaining room was built in.

I figure there's no way he'd pay more than $100.

So he drives out there, 45 minutes, and not only will the guy not negotiate on price, he won't take $150. In a way I'm glad my dad didn't relent, its not that I didn't want the bike (I did, badly) but if you're not going to take 90% of your offering price cash-in-hand you're an idiot. I guarantee this bike does not sell, even in the height of the summer, and he'll come crawling back.

"But I paid $300 for it!" Yeah right. You got it for $20, and you're looking for a quick buck.

Another commuter bike will show up. Have to tell myself that...

$175 is fair value for that bike (at least in Philly). Had he asked for $250 and taken 175, you'd be happy? I personally prefer dealing with craigslist sellers who ask for a fair price without built in negotiating room. I assume I'll be low balled no matter what my asking price is, so I ask for more than I expect to get in most cases. I'd much prefer asking for my target value and then have faith I won't be low balled.

I just thought it was funny he wouldn't take $25 less than the asking price

Fort Wayne, Indiana is where bicycles go to die.

Corvallis, OR, I would have happily paid the $175 without trying to negotiate.

True, true...location is everything, and I have no idea what the market is out there. For this area, that's a fair price IMO. It's not the best deal around, but it's fair.

I do get a little sick of the craigslist "I have to offer less than requested as a matter of principle" attitude, especially on cheaper items or parts. I feel like if I ask a fair price, there's no need to haggle...especially when the person isn't haggleing because the price is too high, but just because it's expected.

I have a mint condition Del Rey on Craigslist for $195, that I would take $175 for. I feel that it is a very fair price for a beautiful Japanese bike in excellent condition, that has been completely tuned up. I feel the price is fair in consideration of the following: 1) New road bikes start at about $500. 2) Some of the outrageous prices being asked for on Craigslist for road bikes - ala a 20 year old Peugeot P6 steel road bike for $225/a 30 year old Viscount complete with Death Fork for $200/30 year old Raleigh English Record for $150, etc.
