So I questioned this seller as to how he figured $3,300 was the original price for this 2001 Cannondale R400, he said he is the original owner and that's what he paid for it. So I told him the MSRP was around $870. He responded that it was an R700 but the frame cracked and they gave him a new R400 frame for replacement as they did not have an R700. So I said a new R700 was only $1,400 also. And they downgraded his frame to one without a carbon fork? I'm waiting to hear his next lie.

I take the "original price" quotes with a grain of salt. But, the asking price for the bike is 2x or perhaps even 3x high.

"Cannondale SR800 Racing Aluminum Frame 22" 56 cm Red Bicycle USA"
OK, I thought this was funny (and wacky), but maybe I'm weird. The ad goes on and on about what a comfortable ride the notoriously stiff Cannondale Criterium is (I should know, I ride one almost every day):
QUOTE: (caps are mine)
==========
And thanks to aluminum's unique ability to absorb road shock and the ultra light weight of the frame, an efficient ride is also a remarkably COMFORTABLE ride...And with the addition of an aluminum fork, it's even more COMFORTABLE. Cannondale aluminum fork offers more than just increased COMFORT. Because aluminum fork blades soak up road shock, absorbing the bouncing and "chattering" of your front wheel, control is increased as well as COMFORT. And any time COMFORT and control are increased your fatigue is reduced, allowing you to ride farther, faster and finish stronger.
==========
Wow, that must be one COMFORTABLE bike. I wonder why he's selling it.
QUOTE:
==========
Reason for selling: bicycle is too sensitive to bad Detroit's sidewalks, so I switched to less expensive Motobecane with wider tires.

Correction: The replacement fork is not bent! Serviced? By whom? No reputable mechanic would fail to point out the frame damage, which on an alum frame, is dangerous.

Somebody called him on it. New ad:

Seriously is the owner blind that he can’t see that the toptube and downtube are bent from a head on collision or is he just a jerk trying to sell a bent bike?

This reminds me of a seller on FB Marketplace a few weeks back. He was selling a Raleigh Racing USA bike with MAJOR frame damage, I messaged him saying so, and he replied, “I already sell it, lol” then ... Shady.

Well apart from the bent fork, that's a very attractive frame, and a really cool saddle. Crankset has an interesting look too (for a cotter). Could be worth the price for somebody looking to use those and a few more parts for a build. I'm thinking a mustard yellow fork could make for a bold combination
In addition to your suggestion for a replacement fork in a contrasting color (or chrome), it may be possible to color-match and refinish a chrome one. It's a small frame, so replacement forks should be easy to find. A fork with a French steerer may be more of a challenge.

Components and frame details match up very well with early 80's Schwinn with some upgrades. Perhaps a World Sport? I've never seen those cranks on any other bike besides Schwinns, but I admittedly haven't looked very hard.

sales tax on ebay
I just got hit at check out on ebay with sales tax for an out of state purchase.
It seems as of June 1, NYS is having ebay add the tax to your purchase.
And the tax is also put on the shipping costs since NYS taxes shipping services.

I just (late) filed for my CA tax refund, and I chose the default amount of ebay tax from the table. I'll have to watch my ebay, if they start adding tax, then I can just put that as 0

Take the most basic road bike in a brand's '80s lineup, pay a bundle to have someone gussy it up for you, THEN decide it's the wrong size for you and sell it.

This is a COMPLETELY redone 10 speed Raleigh Road bike for sale. I turned it into a cruiser just this week. I love it but I am 6-4 and just a little too tall for it. I just had the bike overhauled last week and it's in immaculate condition. Carytown Bikes did all the work and they did an exceptional job! See some details below:
•Brand new w/box Brooks Saddle
•Brand new Velo Orange handlebars
•Brand new Velo brakes and cables
•Brand new Planet Bike Eco bike rack
•Brand new Planet Bike Cork Grips
•Brand new Tourbon Waxed Canvas saddle bag
•Brand new tires
•Complete tune up of bike
•New chain
•Just waxed and polished.
I still have the original road bike handlebars and brakes which you can have.
Thanks for looking.
