OK I have a question... a bit of set up forst. you are an editor of a bicycling magazine and you were sent to tour the Bianchi factory in Italy. when you come back all excited about getting a fabulous Celeste green Bianchi would your first purchase be a used japanese built model? and the wrong size? I would think you could atleast get a lowend italian built Bianchi for cost no?

This is a 1992 Bianchi Alfana road bike. In 1998 I became the editor of Bicycle USA Magazine, and one of my first great opportunities was to go to Treviglio, Italy and tour the Bianchi factory. I came home determined to land a Celeste green Bianchi bike as fast as I could. I found this one advertised in New Hampshire and I liked the seller's description. She had bought it to train for a triathlon, ridden it twice, learned she was pregnant and hung it up in storage. It was effectively a brand new bike with 100 or so miles on it. I bought it and she shipped it from New Hampshire and when it arrived it was just as described.

I'd think an editor of a major cycling magazine would have their choice of low cost/freebies as a job perk (advertising/bribery). I'm sorry, but I don't see the editor of a cycling magazine being extremely excited about Shimano 105.

Also...not to be a judgmental ass, but I did a bit of editing for my college paper and her writing was very poor. I do not think she'd have made it at our amateur level, let alone for a national publication.

Well...maybe at first. I actually brought BG's attention to this auction because it was a local PU only and in my immediate area. Knowing zero about Bianchi's I tipped her off to see if she would be interested in my facilitating shipment. I also think if you read further, the seller put very few miles on the bike over the past 12 years. Likely, that's because the seller (as editor of a major bike mag) had their choice of a new and different bike to ride pretty much any time they wanted to. Or HAD to ride a new and different bike on a regular basis so they could add comments to product reviews and have some riding cred.

As some of you know, biking is just one of several hobbies for me & even with 10 projects waiting for attention, it's not #1. In the 90's, I wrote over 175 technical articles for my big-time hobby for the largest publication that covered the sport. I was inundated with new products to test, write about, incorporate into my articles and on which I was generally expected to pass an opinion. My tastes at the end of that period were far more sophisticated than they were in the beginning, even though I had enough of a reputation to begin with that they hired me as an integral part of the publication. But in the very beginning? I would have been thoroughly discouraged from hitting up a top name manufacturer about a deal for something for me personally.

To me, the story's kind of compelling. The bike...well, not so much. And it finally sold for less than $250.

For sale is an Awesome Cross Colors GT Talera. OK, so it's not really made by Cross Colors, but it could've been because it's so damn wicked colorful! 3 different radical neon colors which you get to ride on! It's ready to roll out of my apartment and into your life for the paltry sum of 50 dollars! All in all, the bikes in good shape, just needs the back wheel to be trued. The rubber is good on the tires, it's got a decent saddle and Shimano brakes/gear set. This thing was made to be a winter warrior. Email me with any questions.

back in the day (late 80s) most cycling magazine editors, most cycling experts (including Sheldon Brown (who called them the "best sidepull brakes ever made" https://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_sa-o.html -scroll down to the SLR entry), and most professional racers who were racing Shimano were abandoning their Dura Ace brakes for the 105 SLR brakes... some excitement back then

With these lines, I doubt it is a misprint. I believe he overstates the rarity as well as the value.

I WILL NO LONGER BE GIVING THE SERIAL NUMBER TO ANYBODY. I WILL GIVE YOU THE FIRST 3 DIGITS AND THAT IS IT. I WILL NO LONGER BE GIVING MEASUREMENTS OUT EITHER.

I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THIS AND ANYBODY COULD BE REFABING A BIKE AS A MOCK OFF. YOU WONT GET ANY INFO FROM ME. THIS BIKE IS ORIGINAL AND AUTHENTIC SCHWINN FROM 1971

because you can buy a raleigh for $10 at good will put some rustoleum on it and call it a Authenic, rare, mint, great for Fixie project, refurbished by a real 4th generation Italian, '71 Schwinn and sell it for $325 and undercut his price LOL

OH not that I wish to imply that 4th Generation Italians are in any way dishonest, devious, good or bad bicycle refurbishers, a bike refurbished by an italian will undoubtedly be worth more than one done by 4th generation Irishman

this is the sickest bike i have ever rode its truly unique and one of a kind so NO lowballers plz thiss bike cost me easily $3000 to set up so don't be whinin'

OK...... this pursuit frame is probably the sickest most gnarly frame u could ever have and is truly one of a kind basically it was made by a real small company in italy the bike was originally white as u can see in parts but then i was like it would be hella sick if i painted this **** pink and put little stars on it. ..........so i got that **** partly powercoated pink but that was before i won a bunch of alley cats races down in frisco so i decided to get the different colored messenger stripes on the seat post downtupe and the fork. u may not know this but those colors are the international color of illegal mesenger races called alley cat races...........anyways shortly at a later time in about 1999 i was talking to my homie from japan and hes all like do you like keirin and so i started watchin alot of keirin races that are like horse races except with buff japanese dudes so as a tribute i decided to put a bunch of japanese stuff on this frame and no i will not sell this frame alone so plz dont ask it has alot of history so dont even do it punks
anyways this bike is the illest polo bike with some of the illest parts first of all the front wheel is a 650c composite disk wheel so there are no spokes to get mallots stuck in andplus that **** is so strong so fast with this wheel u can easily go 40mph partly because its disk partly because it is 650c and no it does not have deckals on it... it has a brand new vitoria open corsa and a ti quick release skeuwer normally i dont use the break but its nice to have esp when ur goin downhill while rocking to some music or goin fast thru traffic but if u dont want ti i understand ill take that **** offf so tell me
now the rear wheel is a standard white deep v but dont hate ont hat **** a lot of ppl hate on that **** but think about it...... first of all i know that **** is hella common but ****ing strong thats why everyone uses em plus this one has a phil wood hub and dt spokes so u cant ask for much more the cog is a 18 tooth sugino and the front cog is a 52 t camponolgo record cog on record cranks both are njs what does that mean? nothing japanese sucks.. ok so please ignore the bike bag lots of my friends give me **** about the bike bag so its not for sale also neither is the black turbo saddel sorry seatpost is its njs campy record...also the pedals are not included

neways this is the best stiffest fastest bike i have ever had ive carefully used it since 1999 and have never crashed it or dinged it its good for everything..mesengering....polo....groceries..errands....crusing around town plus its one of a kind seriously if u have doubts about this bike then just look up how much a pursuit bike with crazy geometries costs and u will see what a good deal this **** is

peace

I'm not sure whether or not to take this seriously or not. I'm 98 and 3/4 percent sure it is.

It makes perfect sense to me to pay $1,000 for a bike and then play bicycle polo with it.
