I know, I absolutely love that thing, It makes me think of how everything looked during '76 as well, just need a Peter Fonda Helmet to go with it...

Here's one where eBay itself is being wacky. What's wrong with this picture:

Yes, it's the tax. I'm trying to pay for a $5.00 chainring from the Old Spokes' Home in Burlington. Our friends at eBay are now in the tax collection business. Somehow eBay is calculating 205.5% sales tax rather than the 5.5% that applies to my state/county. And it's eBay itself doing this, not the seller. The rep at Old Spokes has been an absolute angel, even tried to create an invoice via eBay. On her end, it shows 55 cents tax, but as soon as I open it, eBay recalculates it with that extra ten-spot.

So watch your cart totals, eBay-oids.......

Not Ebay, but weird. JensonUSA.com's sales items included 100% discounts yesterday to a bunch of Fox clothing. You couldn't buy it at that price, but something was clearly broken.

Not a bike, but definitely falls into the "The Wurst of Otto-Correct" category:

https://madison.craigslist.org/zip/d...074092367.html

Brutal car seat

(Evidently it's a "Britax" brand....)

autocorrect, or best of random item generation? I understand the 'brutal' modifier indicates +2 stats across the board.

Sad

Sadly, this garbage is becoming the norm in this country. No clue how to structure a sentence. Misspellings. Lack of coherent thought.

If asked about it, seller will likely respond with a barrage of insults but take no action to try to post a decent ad.

I'm in touch with a seller now and getting info is like pulling teeth. Ask three questions, get half of one answer. Provide my number and suggest speaking on the phone in order to speed things up and clarify, get another email response. I'm afraid to ask for more than the current so-so single photo or for detail on frame measurements or components.

Don't be afraid. Either you'll buy their stuff or you won't. We're all aware that you don't have to be a genius to operate a business, but lacking knowledge and intelligence will certainly make staying in business harder. This might be an example of that. It's just a matter of how bad you want it, and how much time you're willing to invest to potentially see a return. When that bike hoard up north of me popped up, I went to go look at it, but it took me 2 months to decide to invest time. I walked away with some vintage cycling clothing and not much else, though I wanted a bike. Another member went and cleaned out the rest of the hoard, though he's primarily focused on reselling, not necessarily building a bike up for his personal use. Ask yourself why you're interested and if that reason is compelling enough to deal with the seller. Then you'll have the answer!

I'm not really worried. Just gives me more time to talk myself out of the bike that I do not need and which would not be my first choice for an '80s tourer, but which appears to be in really nice original condition and is reasonably priced. You know how it is. Mostly venting about the communication aspect.

Never underestimate the positive aspects associated with proverbially "blowing off steam", either

Is the Dumbing Down of America Abating?

Or just confined to some road bike sellers...

No apparent need to include pics but at least this guy knew a bit about the need to capitalize a word, somewhere in a sentence.

"Road" context doesn't matter as the bar seems to be low. This could be an attempt to raise it.

https://norfolk.craigslist.org/bik/d/cape-charles-bicycle-drafting-shield/7065331851.

Bicycle Drafting Shield - $450 (Cape Charles VA)

Bicycle Road Racing drafting shield designed to be secured in a pick-up truck, SUV or pulled with a trailer.
I had this built to help me to increase my speed on my road bike. It works really well for protecting agains the wind, air etc.
The draft behind this shield is much better than a draft from a vehicle, or other cyclists. etc.

Very light and weight and easily secured to vehicle with straps.
* photos show draft shield during the build process and after completely assembled.

wow, it protects against not only the wind, but ALSO the air! Wait, it says 'wind, air etc.' it protects against EVEN MORE THINGS?

Would be pretty fun though. I wonder how fast I could ride if there were no aero penalty? (I guess I could answer that question on a stationary bike, if it's well calibrated for rolling resistance)

^^^^^ The woodgran is so... Idunno.... National Lampoon's Vacation? Should be towed behind Clark's woody. Either that, or it should be painted with Evel Knievel -esque lightning bolts, or flames or something.
