To be fair...didn't Lemond size their frames a bit differently than most other manufacturers. If the seller actually measured the frame it might have come to 54cm.
|
I'm meeting this guy in about an hour and a half. This is the right size for me. I have a Dura Ace gruppo ready to install. Is $340 fair?

If you like the frame and can see yourself enjoying riding it with your DA components, then it's worth it to you. I would go in with an offer of $300, just on principle assuming the seller has built in a CL price pad. Or maybe if you're not into the tires, offer $250 and he keeps the tires, maybe he has other 27" wheels he can use them on. |
Almost $6K CAD for a 'classic Italian' frame and fork; https://vancouver.craigslist.org/nvn...171385416.html

^ I'd like to hear more about this bike shop which can replace a wheel for $20. Also, I'm curious about what happened to the other two gears.

I agree that the $20 dollar wheel replacement is a fairy tale. Maybe they forgot a zero? |
I believe that Ross Signatures are really really nice bikes so maybe this doesn't belong here (then there is that Covid tax price of $250...)
But anyone who'd ride a tire as far as this rear tire has gone probably never did any maintenance! Ad says "I have a 80s ross signature 294s with training stand. Everything works great but will need new tires. " https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...60554217665896 https://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...89&oe=5F680D57 |
A good example of a how an honest seller can be confused as to what constitutes terms such as "excellent condition" or "ready to ride" and a dishonest seller, well....
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...86529388875454 Schwinn Paramount Series 3 PDG Bike $250 Per ad "Size: 58 cm, ideal rider 5'9"-6'2" All original components except for seat and tires. New Continental Ultra Sport tires. Pedals can be attached for no additional charge. Rear derailleur cable is slightly frayed by shifts cleanly." First view seems ok https://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...42&oe=5F68502A "Rear derailleur cable is slightly frayed by shifts cleanly" https://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...3c&oe=5F681473 Small dent in top tube isn't mentioned https://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...41&oe=5F66A0ED Cables be highly rusty https://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...2d&oe=5F661EFF Might be an ok buy for $250 but possibly other reasons for low price (internal cables might be stuck, etc). |

One-armed weight weenie selling his classic Raleigh...

^^^^^^ It's actually a decent bike going at an average price for the time. The seller is right up front about the broken handlebar.
Ironic that the aluminum frame, frequently maligned for its construction, outlasted the handlebar. |

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Alternatively: His neighbor down the alley runs a "bike shop" out of his garage and can get you stolen rims at $20 each |
I get wheels at the local used shop for about $20 wheel for front, $25 for a rear. Sometimes more, not very often less.

Even French folks don't know what they have...nice 80 year old Gitane here...circa 1985/86 if I recall my Gitane decals:
