hey, I have a Grand Record in that same paint job, rode the heck out of it from when I bought it in 1975 until the mid 80s when I started doing more mountain biking, and it was so beat up I retired it. it was an awesome bike, reynolds 531, partially campy neuvo record, sewup/tubulars

So how does this scam work?

Kidding! God bless whoever's doing this (although they did supposedly give money to a bike thief). Anyway, I hope this cool old Trek goes back to its rightful owner.

I'd like to have one. They are a nice bike. Just not $1500 nice. Let alone his fake $2000 nice.

The Internet of 2050, when a dollar won't buy you one slice of bread, and a bike of this age can rightly be called an "antique".

Nishiki Alien Mountain Bike - $400 (North Fresno)

I always thought these things were pretty wild and wacky, and I really doubt anyone is seriously looking for one so the “Are You Looking For One of These?” thread seems inappro.

From the splatter paint job, to the strange frame design that looks more like crash damage than advanced off-road engineering. I remember seeing a Haro that had a frame similar to this.

I pity the bike shop salespeople who had to try to explain these bikes to puzzled customers. That said, this thing has some pretty nice components on it, even if the frame design never really caught on.

Spatter was a thing in the '80s and so was combating chain suck.

Oh. I don't know....... Some of us appreciate the design for it's uniqueness if nothing else. The Ariel was the Alien's heavier steel sibling and not especially valuable but the puzzled looks on people's face is priceless.

I think the frame's designers used up all their creativity on the rear triangle, and so by the time they got to the front end, they just said, "It's late, just put a straight fork on it and call it good."

I have one, an Impulse. Something of a conversation piece. A buddy of mine pointed out that the frame design would be especially suitable to belt drive.

I believe the vertical dropouts make it quite difficult to do a belt drive. Almost every major manufacturer made elevated chainstay MTBs during that brief few years when they were popular, but it was late enough that they almost all would have had vertical dropouts.

No animals were harmed in the making of this artificial deer head rack:

Guy has some really nice bikes for sale too. Living in scenic Monterey CA, wrenching on bikes ... doesn't get any better than that. Wish I could afford.

I've got a bin full of these, and while I think this is quite clever, I'm not about to build one of my own.

SCHWINN PHANTOM 100TH ANNIVERSARY BAR STOOLS VERY RARE - $3,000 (ESCONDIDO)

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/la...196583190.html

My go-to place when I'm bored these days (which is a lot) is the LA Craigslist "Bike Parts" section.

Many high quality framesets and components for sale there, and also a lot of bike-related stuff you just will not find anywhere else. Much of it bizarre / "niche" items like these $3,000 Schwinn bar stools.

I won't blame the seller for gently using SEO techniques. I can imagine buyers interested in Colnago to potentially also be interested in Tommasini.

The flipper in Ditmas Park, here in Brooklyn, currently has 106 bikes--if I counted right--listed for sale. Wow, that is a huge operation. I guess he really scaled things up for the Covid boom.

^^^^^^ Sorry, but there's no such thing as listing 106 bikes and legitimately saying it's "By owner".

There is an area local bike seller who typically has about a dozen or so used bikes on CL by owner. I flag every one of his ads.
