Check out how the right side pedal and crank was displaced (in the middle pic) to top of stroke to match the riders position.

This isnít from a sale ad, but while looking up some info on kidsí helmets for a friend I stumbled across a site which had a promotional video (like, for the site itself ) that caught my eye...

Uhhh, Iím no sick trail rider, so have I missed the mount-your-bars-backward trend, or am I not understanding something??

Seller's description (in all caps of course):
"THIS IS A VERY RARE UNIQUE VINTAGE BICYCLE!
SPECIALIZED BIKE CO MADE THESE FOR PANASONIC AND THIS IS THE FIRST GENERATION HYBRID THEY MADE THAT YEAR IN @81-82.
THE DX FRAMES WERE MOSTLY ROAD BIKES AND THIS YEAR THEY STARTED TO GET INTO THE HYBRID MARKET.
EVERYTHING IS COMPLETE AND ORIGNAL AND WORKS I REPLACED THE FRONT TIRE WITH A CIRCA CORRECT TIRE. THE BIKE IS FLAWLESS
EVEN BACK IN THE DAY THIS WAS A 300 DOLLAR BIKE IM ASKING HALF THAT. 150 DOLLARS CASH"

To their credit, they did a good job of making up a story that sounds plausible if you don't know anything about 80's bikes.

Their prices are out of control for bikes and frames but they have good deals on parts sometimes. I got some special edition MKS Sylvan pedals last year for $20, and paid the same two weeks ago for a Tange technoglide 1 1/8 headset. I think they still have both in stock. I assume they have a Soma or Merry Sales connection.

Great to carry for emergency transportation!
Must sacrifice. Fits riders up to 6' (or more)!

I thought the stem binder might not like carrying so much load, but regular binders will still carry an appreciable amount of the rider weight down to the fork, and the headset is designed to carry a load. I guess it comes down to how beefy that sissy bar substitute is, and if that 3rd bearing under the seat works. I don't think it'd be comfortable to ride upright with the bars in my lap though, and I'm certain that those kids frames list a top weight limit of 120 lbs.

Edit: Wait a tic, that bearing under the seat looks like a modified caster wheel... ingenious.

I did a search to find out if Next ever actually made a bike called "Top Banana," or if that was a custom decal.

Turns out the builder was inspired by an Instructables post, and left a comment with some of those same pictures 12 years ago (scroll down to the bottom of the page):

Top Banana Bike

Good eye, Unca Sam. That is indeed a caster bearing.

Now you can build your own "Top Banana"...

I always wonder just who in the hell do they think is going to do this "REPAIR WORK"
