Some Huffy Cranbrooks aren't that bad but those orange and black ones are pretty terrible.

I'd rather look at actual motorcycles for $1k

The sellers text is wrong.

Custom build bike for sale. Used it and no longer need it. Will get 150 miles to the tank and everything is brand new. Askin 1,000 so let me know if interested. 979-218-7678

It should say "Used it, got my license back, no longer need it to get to work".

All it took was seeing the one that cuda had the steerer tube snap in two while adjusting the headset.. NEVER will buy one. A Murray from the eighties yes, but NEVER a Cranbrook from the nineties and beyond..,,,,BD

There's a Honda Helix in Meridian, Idaho on CL for $700 that I wish I had, it gets over 65 mpg and does highway speeds, if you aren't aware of them look them up.

I love the way people refer to such drewing as track. Sounds better than wrong size bars poorly welded to stem.

The weld to the stem looks good. Penetration seems about right. Ugly, but welding neatly onto cast isn't easy.

The weld to the bars on the other hand...

Yeah, definitely unsafe and I hope the new owner has a good dentist.

How about this one on the Toronto CL----a Campagnolo Shamal/Vento front wheel but it is actually just a Vento. I guess he put the word "Shamal" in the title to get people excited or something.

CAMPAGNOLO SHAMAL / VENTO - front wheel - $195 (Toronto)

https://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/bik/3593041659.html

This guy has a Shamal front wheel for $200 but the logos are gone. Hrrmmmmmmmmmmmm

My brain hurts from reading that.
I teach HS English in a community with a large Af-Amer. population, and respect that kind of writing. I don't teach it, obviously, but there's value in it.

You can hear it as you read it in a way that you can't possibly hear what I'm writing... and I don't mean reading it in an insulting caricature, but I can totally hear the young man who wrote it as I read it.

The whole suspicious theft thing, though.... that's another thing entirely.

Thank you.

One cannot teach "proper" English to speakers whose native language is deep dialect without understanding and respecting that dialect as legitimate.

Now, as for your assumption that the Craigslist poster is male ...

Not entirely true. One's writing style offers many clues to the background of the writer (yours included).

I agree. While as pointed out below I am not perfect either, aside from the fact the poster actually tried to write something what is to respect? I could understand the slang and or dialect but you actually allow students to hand in work with misspelled words? That makes you part of the problem.

Jesus people, this is what he means. Right here, he's already said it. Nothing else, he sees a value in phonetic spelling as a way to bridge language barriers. Does he teach it, no? I tend to agree, as a linguistic exercise it's fascinating.

I'm sure if some stuffy old white guy tried to write a novel without the letter "E" (oh wait) we'd all fawn about his creative use of the language to expand descriptive possibilities or some other navel gazing bilge. But if a seller shows up on craigslist creatively adapting the language to his will, we assume the seller must just be that stupid and it's a failure of the schools and surely a sign of the sky beginning to fall.

The "get off my lawn" side of this place is pretty tiresome sometimes.
