The fastest Schwinn Varsity on the planet?

They had one of those at the bike co-op a while ago. I think they were actually used on a couple of stationary exercycle models. But, they do stimulate one's imagination.

Probably late 80's and Columbus SL. I'd venture it's worth more as classic steel than aluminum, or if the fork was original which I doubt it is. Not many Pinarello fork set up for fenders and racks.

For a $14K bike... not a single side picture of the whole frame.

It apparently includes all the components for a full build (or two), but not a single one is actually photographed (other than the headset cups, and stem).

I have to assume the bike has canti posts, but no photos of those either.

Stationary bike is correct, and it weighs a ton. If you ever need replacement parts for a Schwinn Stingray speedo, they used the same cables and units on those.

Thanks all. Hadn't considered that. The weight is an advantage once you get up-to-speed, increased inertia and all that.

Yeah, I've heard the same here from some friends buying on craigslist lately (not even bikes). If you wanted to be a real jerk, you'd bid even higher and talk them into meeting you at a Walmart or some similar location a good distance away and just not bother showing up.

that's super lame.

i guess it's all-y'alls's first time dealing with CL and people offering more than the asking prices, therefore creating a 'bidding war'. it happens. get over it. move on.
Nope, been buying and selling stuff on Craigslist for many years. The problem is that Craigslist isn't a bidding site.

It's not a matter of someone offering more. It's a seller's negotiating tactic. If a seller publishes a price in their ad, that's an offer to sell at that price. If they then change the price, they aren't honoring their offer to sell. Pretty simple. And sleazy.

If you've been buying and selling stuff on CL for many years, you should know by now that CL is a wild west, with no enforcement of buyer/seller honesty or etiquette other than the Report link. HTFU, or shop your local brick&mortars at full retail price, where you can complain to the BBB if you need to.

The Allez is probably easily worth $300. I'm not sure about the Trek.

It is, however, poor form to change the price like that.

Most Craigslist transactions go smoothly, but I have had a few sellers that just generally flake out on me. Very annoying, especially when I'm 1 hour plus towing a bike trailer headed to the meet spot.

I would have thought it was a fishing scam. Pretty much why CL has become a wasteland. To bad.

My wife has been renovating our house for about six years. Heavily. And half of the supplies are from craigslist, including bathroom fixtures, floorboards, cabinets, tools, beams. She knows how to make it work. Some people are flakes, but she learns who quickly enough. There was only one extremely unpleasant experience. She filed against him in small claims court, and we got some action from him.

Nothing really wrong with this one, other than about two too many links in the chain.

But, to me, everything just seems to clash.

Not sure I've seen parts from so many different Campy model derailleurs as on that Rally. Still wouldn't "Patent" with no date suggest pretty early production?

Sicilia, of course!!!

The bike may well be restorable, but wouldn't be cheap or easy to do. And, even for a Bianchi, I don't think that was ever a high-end bike. Sewups and wing nuts?

Noting the difference between commas and periods in Italian, perhaps one could offer 1.00 € for the bike.

Somewhere I should have 1000 Lira to offer

Someone actually bothered to install a set of decent commuter/hybrid combo levers, an SR stem, a non-clamp-style seat post, a set of Dia-Compe brakes, a crankset with bolt-on chainrings (drillium-ed), etc....

That thing looks like it is speckled with rust all over. NOS might be nice, but only if it is in like new condition.

When are bike manufactures going to treat their bikes with Cosmoline? Good for a century?

Does Cosmoline turn to Amber?

I hadn't heard about it, but it does sound like it had an interesting history.

Firenze--old bike, is it authentic?

It doesn't say what the "safety" issues were. Reflectors? Brakes?

There was a note somewhere about rear dropouts coming loose, but that could potentially be repaired.

Anyway, not worth a lot, but I'd evaluate the bike and frame carefully before going with a destructive option. Not that I would sell or give away a bike/frame in today's world that isn't 100% "safe".

53cm Lemond Alpe d'huez. This is my rat rod bike. The paint was stripped from the frame leaving a very unique look. The frame has been clear coated to help keep the bike from catastrophically rusting.
Kind of a cool patina look to it, making it look 30 years older than it actually is.

And one of the sad realities of life. Invest a lot of time, energy, and money into a build, and one actually decreases its value.

The Lemonds seem to hold their value, but he is a little ambitious on the pricing.
