Some help to value a vintage falcon
2 Attachment(s)
I've noticed a few people posting some threads about vintage Falcons and thought this would be a good place to seek some help.
I was recently hit by a car whilst riding my vintage Ernie Clements Falcon Road bike - I broke my back in the crash. I'm at home now and starting to fill out legal paperwork and one of the things I need is an estimate of what the bike was worth. I bought the bike for £20 (yes I'm in England) a few years back from an old guys garage sale. I replaced a few worn components and immediately fell in love with how it rode and looked. Now I'm no vintage bike expert but I've done a little research online and it seems to me that maybe I had a vintage / classic bike on my hands without really knowing it. Obviously it's worthless now (see pics!) but I'd really love to get an idea of what these things go for? Does anyone have any idea of what the bike could have been worth before the crash or maybe point me towards examples of similar ones sold or for sale that could give me an idea of the value of the bike. Any help appreciated. Thanks |
Have the frame checked out by an expert. If your headtube isn't damaged, a new fork might get you back on the road.

Judging by the fork crown, the sticker in lieu of stamped metal headbadge, and the crankset and brakes, my guess is that there isn't a lot of value there due to classic/vintage status -- I don't think that it was one of Falcon's more expensive bikes. You might be able to buy a similar bike for 50-75 pounds, if you wait for the right one. While I'm no expert about Falcons, I've never seen one in such a color scheme, so it may have been repainted as well.

ha! nice one..i'll put that down on the form... ;)

Looks to be a low-mid level Falcon. If there were a tubing sticker on the seat tube it would be helpful, as well as close up pics of things like rear drop outs and front lugs. Good luck!

It may be lower end, but it sure is cool looking.
Bear in mind, you should calculate replacement value. You should factor in the replacement cost of a same or similar bike, the saddle, stem, rear mud guard, wheels?, and anything else that wasn't original to the bike. |
