Here are some good instructions for a DIY method:

parktool.com also sells the actual tool, but why buy a tool for a one time job?

To remove it is pretty simple iirc: use a small screwdriver or nail set to push the pin down that protrudes from the kickstand shell, and slide the thing out. It's re-installing it that gets tricky.

I recently tried to order one of the tools and was told it was no longer available.

These folks show they have one:

edit:
I just searched the parktool site for ks-1 and came up with their instruction page that states they are going to reintroduce the tool:

Removal -- trivial, even with only basic hand tools
Reinstallation -- unnecessary

OK may I ask a question? how much weight does removing this kickstand from this frame save? you can shave a few more ounces by removing the safety levers.

PS I remember seeing that tool in shop but can't say I remember what it was for. in 7 years I never saw it used.
