Rossin Questions

I was going to sell this, but I think I may keep it and build it up. I'm thinking fully chromed frame/fork and new decals with some modern Campy. Can anyone tell me the year/model and any other info.?

Looks like early to mid 80s vintage. Why not use period correct Campy?

rotharpunc 04-28-09 08:43 AM

It is built for recessed mount brakes and 700c wheels, if that helps.

Period Campy stuff would be nice, But I have almost everything I would need to build it up with 10 speed Centaur already on hand. Plus, I don't have a "go fast" bike put together at the moment, and I think this would fit the bill. I can always piece together a vintage Campy group if I get another frame to swap the centaur stuff on to down the line.

I'm a fan of how it looks right now! Sure it's chipped up quite a bit, but still looks lovely.

rotharpunc 04-28-09 08:52 AM

it looks much worse in person, lol

I like how that frame looks with paint on it, with the yellow paint in the recessed areas. I personally like the decal set on it too.

rotharpunc 04-28-09 09:19 AM

it would be nice if the paint could be saved, but all the chrome on the rear triangle is shot, and I can't get the paint looking decent no matter how much I go at it with rubbing compound. And honestly, I don't really like the red/orange/yellow combo myself.

I understand what your saying. I like the look of chrome frames too, but Waterfords stance on why you shouldn't chrome a frame freaks me out a little bit.

My .02, no matter which route you go (if any) I think you should paint to recessed areas. Or you could have a really nice beater! I always say I want a beater bike but every time I get one I can't bring myself to like the fact that it's beaten up.

what does waterford have to say about chroming? I can't find anything on their site

rotharpunc 04-28-09 09:35 AM

I will paint the recessed areas, I was thinking chrome with Black/white decals and probably fill the recessed stuff in black. I'm just not a big fan of color, lol.

Do it, it'll look great. Red and yellow is far too reminiscent of fast food chains.

I'll dig around for it in a bit, I'm heading to lunch now. Maybe someone will chime it on it

I think up to the mid-80s (this one looks like lets say 83) the SL/SP tubed frames were all called 'Record'?

mkeller234 04-28-09 01:02 PM

Ok, here is where I read about the problems with re-chroming:

http://www.schwinnbike.com/usa/eng/f...d.php?p=332751

of course, It seems that there are a fair number of bikes around that have been plated that had great results. (23skidoo comes to mind)

Personally, I think it would look awesome
