Toe clip riders!!!

What kind of shoe do you wear while riding with toe clips? The chuck taylor's I usually ride in seem to have a sole that's just a bit to soft and the cage on the pedals is starting to chew through.

I'm curious to hear what you ride in.

First, I have had exactly the same problem with most sneakers. Adidas has a slim sneaker called "Team" with a harder black sole. It has nearly the stiffness of an old -fashioned touring show. I also have a pair of old fashioned Adidas touring shoes, and a set of Diadora leather-soled cycling shoes with real hard cleats.

I'm not a big fan of cleats. Almost everytime I ride my bike I'm going somewhere where I'll need to walk. It's one of the biggest reasons I don't ride clipless. But I love being attached to the pedal. It's not too often that I do my trail riding and when I do I'd hate to have to switch pedals to a step in type.

I know alot of fixie kids who wear adidas sambas.

I'm one of them(except the fixie part most days, lol). I love 'em. I really like power grips myself, but they look like crap so I'm thinking of trying to rig up a pair in some nice leather or something

I rode clipped today. Wore my Duegi's.

so get MTB spd shoes with a recessed cleat. You can clip in and walk like a normal shoe. I use them for commuting and touring.

Nike had the Brother shoe in several colors, though I believe it's been discontinued.

Fairly stiff soled for a street shoe and the sole width fits a quill pedal and toeclip well.

Puma Turin's here. Mine are beat to hell, but they're the second most comfortable footwear I've ever had (An old pair of Vasque hiking boots are the top). They fit toe clips fine, and part of the reason I bought them is because they have shape akin to cycling shoes. Though they're definitely not the stiffest shoe.

Umm, I think you are confusing clipped with clipless.

I use Etnies, they last a really, really long time and are pretty ****ing comfy too. :) I've actually had a pair for more than 5 years that show almost no (0) wear on the sole. :thumb:

Sambas work fine for me.

I would think that your feet would get awfully sore riding in a soft soled shoe. There is a reason cycling shoes have rigid soles.

robatsu 04-28-09 10:24 PM

Boat shoes. Nice compromise between the bike and office. For instance, rode from Silver Spring to Tyson's Corner for meeting today, maybe 18/19 miles each way. Toe clips, MKS Touring Pedals, boat shoes, and fresh as a daisy, no issues. I ride centuries this way. Not sure I'd do it with a a road or track pedal w/less support.

My 13 yo bought a pair of Shimano mtb shoes that have the recessed clips. He just walks down the gravel road and then clips into the pedals on the pavement. A buddy of mine bought a set of pedals from Performance that are clipless on one side and platform on the other. They also used a recessed cleat with mtb shoes.

but you'd be wrong (in my case anyways) I've been riding with Etnies for years with no problems at all. :) I've found that rigid soles makes one depend on a shoe for support, I guess the muscles in my feet are used to depending on themselves. :) but then again I really dislike clipless, and the OP is talking toe clips.

warm weather a cheap pair of turn tec athletic shoes from Kohl's. Cold a 20 yo pair of timberland 6" boots that are beat to snot, soles worn to nothing and melted off camping and reglued on.

Uvex safety shoes...

Picked these up last fall and have been thrilled with them... they are leather and have a reinforced toe and they have held up exceptionally well.

They are also breathe well and have decent water resistance.

i actually threw shot put and discus in college so i wore my throwing shoes which have a very stiff flat bottom.

I have been very happy with these and toe clips. Narrow, comfortable, durable, and cheap.

Asics track shoes, without the spikes.
Adidas indoor soccer shoes.

+1 for Adidas Sambas.

toward the toe. I punched two holes at the top end of the
cover, through which I threaded the second set of laces

Sounds interesting - can you show a photo?

Usually I wear an old pair of brown, "dress type" shoes I got years and years ago from Wal Mart. Roomy and comfortable, with a thicker sole and no tread, so I won't get my foot stuck.
