From 1982...disc brakes?

Pics forthcoming...Saturday.

A guy from my work is dropping off a Peugeot Nevada (hybrid) 18spd, circa 1982...with disc brakes???

Anyone know anything offhand about disc brakes from this era?
He says the back brake needs to be repaired? I am imagining somehow a lack of readily available parts for the damn thing.

Disc brakes started in the early 70's. The Schwinn Krate was on of the first bikes. Those versions are usually heavy and clunky looking. Your version will be more refined but still drastically different than today's version. Most likely made by Shimano.

I had a dsc brake on the rear of my Ross back in like 77. The thing never did work right. after going over the bars and taking it back to the "shop" a couple times it was traded in.

+1. Shimano's disc brake goes back at least to 1972.

Not a snowballs chance in h@ll a Peugeot from 1982 has disc brakes.

+1. I don't think Peugeot got into the ATB market until 1984. I don't even recall the Nevada. I'd have to look that one up. Regardless, the Shimano disc brakes were marketed as an aftermarket item, so they could be retrofitted to anything, provided you were willing to rebuild the wheel with the dedicated hub.

I am having my doubts as well....I am having a hard time picturing it.
I should have the bike tomorrow night....I suspect the date is wrong and/or not a Peugeot, or who knows what....but who knows.

I certainly have never seen a 'Nevada' in any of the old catalogues...

Department store bike in the early 80's had them on stock.
