I bought my first road bike.....

A 1984 Motobecane Mirage Sport - Bought for $100 from a bike buddy of mine.

..

So far have only had to put new tubes in it - but its due for new brake pads (Had to adjust them almost to the end of the limiters to make them work). Have a rack for it but due to the nature of the seat and chain stays I need to make my own shorter hardware to put it on. Not sure I can fit fenders on it either, despite it having fender brazons on the fork and chain stays. Pretty sure I need a wider handlebar and more comfortable brake levers! Other than that it seems to be in good shape. Had plans for it as a commuter but not so sure it'll fit that bill.

Its marked with : Motolite Inexternal tubing stickers. It has 27" Rigida (sp?) rims, Weinmann Brakes & Levers, Nevar cranks, Front Huret derailuer, and a rear Huret/Sachs Pilot derailuer.

Any thoughts on this? I know its nothing fancy, but its only the second bike in my stable, and we all have to start somewhere right?

Is there a columbus sticker on the forks and on the seat tube of the frame?

Yes its the beginnings of a stable. I'm rather happy about that.

No Columbus stickers anywhere. The seat tube is marked with a "Inexternal - Built with MOTOLITE High resiliency tubing". The Fork is marked with " Fourre Aux, Inexternal, Haute Stabilite". The friend I bought it from described it as not being overly nice tubing, but not made of drain pipes either.

It looks nice and clean. I like the faux leather wrap on the old Moto's, got any drive side pics to show off? Welcome to the world of C&V where bikes seem to multiply.

More pics. Added a rack, lights (until I find something more suitable for this one), a better saddle (Want a new seatpost, but the only 25.4 ones I can find are bmx ones) and a under-saddle bag.

I'm not sure if I like the faux leather myself. Sort of a moot point though as I'm already looking for a wider handlebar. Also I need to get the wheels trued - the rear one has an awful wobble to it.

Nice! I have an 85 Mirage that is very similar. I didn't care too much for the pleather wrap myself. I replaced the drops with a mustache bar.

I've ridden mine on 50 mile group social rides and it was great. Generally I just putter around the neighborhood...

Nice, is there pics of this anywhere? Curious to see what the Mostache bars look like on these frames! Still need to figure out what size bar/stem combo I need also.

Yes - I'm already contemplating bicycle number 3. Maybe a cyclocross/tourer/hardcore commuter. This one at the moment will be used for light work commutes, since my Nashbar ATB panniers are to large for the short chain stays. They either go into the wheel when loaded or I end up with a consitent heel strike. My cannondale hardtail has been regulated to the grocery getter/workhorse for the moment.

Here's the bike, I have a close up of the bars somewhere, too, I'll try to find it.
