Four years ago I sold my mid 60's Gitane. I had the bike hand built for me when I was at Ramstein AFB Germany in 1965. All Campy and the front derailer was shifted with a short lever mounted on the derailer. I could shift it with my knee. Very light for its day at 21 pounds.

I had an Alan Super Record, all Campy, I sold for too cheap before vintage prices went up. I had it for over 20 years, guess I was tired of it but now I miss it for sentimental reasons.
I had a Lotus Eclair full dress touring bike, great long distance hauler. I once road it from Ann Arbor to NJ. I donated that to Pedals for Progress, so now it's probably living a useful life as a department store in Africa.

I sort of regret giving away my hybrid geared rear wheel, a 14-16-18-20 cogset on a Sturmey Archer AW 3-speed hub. It provided a great set of 10 non-redundant ratios and was a blast to ride. With a downtube lever for the derailleur and a 3-speed trigger tucked under the left brake lever, double shifts were a breeze.

Holiday 76 I don't have any pictures from the last 30 years of the bike but I may have some from the late 60's of it and two other bikes I bought from SF or AF guys at Ramstein.That will take some looking to find them. I was there as a contractor so I could go anyplace I wanted.There were many bike builders there building one bike a week.

No regrets really. I got a new 23” frame Azuki 10 speed in about 1975. I replaced the frame a couple of years later with a nicer 25” frame.

I didn’t really need a nicer frame, but I had outgrown the Azuki. I eventually turned the Azuki into a SS and I think I gave it away to a friend at some point.

I regret selling the Saturn GT team bike I had. It was pretty ratty, but mostly complete, when I found it. Added correct wheels and swapped out a few worn parts and it wound up looking pretty good. The fit wasn't perfect for me, but it was a really fun bike to ride.

I sold this as a frame set to a BFr. Don't remember who and don't know what he did with it. I have Masi on my bucket list, but this was not the right one. I did like the colorway.

Never a road bike, but I do regret selling one bike. I found it in a dirty barn and bought it for $300. A 1894 wood rim bike equipped with the original gas lantern headlight. I was offered stupid money and couldn’t resist. Really wish I had that one back.

- a 1976 Puch Royal X my father bought new for me in March, 1978. It was my first bike built with Reynolds 531 tubing, the first bike I owned that came stock with alloy rims, and my first bike that wasn't a department store or basic entry-level bike. And I loved it and rode it a lot, until I started spending more time behind a guitar than on a bike.

So one day in 1987 I found a guy with a blackface Fender Vibroluxe Reverb Amp that I absolutely HAD to have, and very little $ to my name ... so I sold the bike to a friend of mine in Macon, Georgia for $150 and went and bought the amp. And it was a hell of an amplifier, and my Telecasters sounded great through it, but then I realized I missed my bike. I contacted the buyer to see if he would consider selling it back to me and learned it had been stolen from his fenced-in back yard while he was inside eating lunch one day. I didn't do much then, and it wasn't until I got back into bikes in '98 and discovered the world of bike collecting enabled by the internet that I started looking for another one. Alas, they just didn't make all that many Puch Royal Xs, and in twenty years of looking around I never ONCE found a white one for sale in my size.

Until one day in 2019, on a whim, I looked at Facebook Marketplace, and typed in "Puch" and there among mopeds and punchbowls I saw this -

- for $100 in Stone Mountain, Georgia. So I made a deal with the seller, made arrangements for him take it to a bike shop there and collect his payment and for the shop to send it to me. And then the damnedest thing happened. When I unpacked it, all of the parts I had replaced on the bike had been replaced - and all the parts I had left stock were still stock. And then I looked closer at the headbadge and saw a scar I'd seen on mine in the mid-80s and realized I had managed to recover my own long-lost bike.

There's really only one other bike I ever regretted parting with - a 1971-ish Raleigh Competition that I plucked from a trash heap here in Greenwood, SC. It was covered in exterior latex housepaint and rattlecanned Krylon, wheel-less and missing other vital parts, but my size, with forged Huret dropouts and Nervex lugs and a Stronglight 93 with a lone home-drilled 42T ring, and my size to boot. It was my favorite mad-scientist test-bed bike for a long while, and in a foolish bout of downsizing I sold it via the 'Bay to a guy in Canada. Its replacement, a '73 Competition, is probably actually a better bike but I still remember Lazarus fondly ...

Selling? Nope. i enjoyed it, there are other fish in the ocean. I regret not buying bikes. This Maino especially.
