Suntour Frame?
Saw an ad for this. What do you think of this? Aren't they just suntour dropouts and not actually a suntour frame?
AD: This is a very special bike. When I bought this bike, I spent almost $2000 on it. I didn't want to race, I only wanted an exotic bike that would go fast. This one does, but is a great lightweight touring bike too. The bike is a Suntour lightweight but very strong steel frame (most people don't know the famed Suntour racing company that is known for high tech racing parts for bicycles actually built some very special bike frames too), with Shimano racing gears, and Mod Grand Prix handlebars (Italy), with shoe lock peddles an through the frame cables. (I have the chain off the sproket which explains the lack of tension on the drive chain.) The third photograph shows the Suntour hallmark on the rear fork of the frame. The standover height is 31 inches and it ha a custom lime green color.. While the technology of racing bikes has changed a little, since I purchased this bike, if you are looking for a bike that has some of the best qualities of exotic racing machines is easy to ride, fast and beautiful, in great condition, (stored inside), you should look at this one. I have it priced at a bargain $275 or best offer, as this great bike should be ridden and appreciated. http://images.craigslist.org/3nf3p13...fb37ad1e57.jpg http://images.craigslist.org/3k33pd3...fd75cf1de3.jpg http://images.craigslist.org/3ke3p23...e9b26f171f.jpg http://images.craigslist.org/3pf3o83...c02d75114c.jpg |
Wow, he spent $2000 on it. Maybe he'll spend $1000 for an Ironman.
Jump on this deal if you really want to hurt yourself. My guess, regardless of "in-frame" cable routing, is: Frame you'd have to spend $150 to strip and repaint, and still not know what it is. Components worth maybe $50-$60 Mismatched wheels. Ad copy by PT Barnum. |
Don't know where to start. Ad is pure fiction.

1) Why would a Suntour bicycle have Shimano components?
And 2) Fo'rizzle? -Gene- |
Seems like it could be an okay (if unknown) frame. But the guy is nuts. Clearly he does not know anything about bikes (both from what he wrote and how the bike is set up in the picture). But worse, he is a huge liar, he did not put $2000 into it. I do not like to do business with liars at any price.

I say everyone should spam him with inquiries about his absurd details

I think thenomad has the right idea.
But yeah, this is total BS. Besides, just the angle of the handlebars shows to me where his bicycle seriousness lies. |
Oh boy....
I like this declaration "I have the chain off the sproket which explains the lack of tension on the drive chain" My question would be, Why? |
Oh boy. We have a few of these nutjobs on the New York Craigslist. One guy has been posting the same weirdo schpiel about his Raleigh Competition for several years. At least this copy here is free of all-caps and puncutation abuse.
C&V, do we have a name for this style handlebars? Something searingly clever, like uh.... uh.... Jerkbars |
Dork Drops. :p

They're not quite around enough to be Bum Bars, but headed that way.

Ya, it really confused me. I didn't understand what was going on with it. I figured I'd post it here to see what more knowledgeable people had to say.
http://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/bik/1169388484.html That's the ad. When I emailed, they claimed that they got it at a custom bike shop in Michigan. |

Take a close look at the pic, seems like the chain is in front of the FD cage. Something is whacked out. speaking of something being whacked out, check out these bars. The bends seem all wrong even if it was installed correctly. http://images.craigslist.org/3p63o83...dfc326186b.jpg MY WIFE WON THIS BIKE IN A CONTEST/SWEEPSTAKES AND SHE ONLY RODE IT TWICE! IT HAS THE OWNERS MANUEL STILL ATACHED AND THE ORIGINAL BARCODE STICKER ON IT. IT IS DESIGHNED TO BE A COPETETION SPEED BIKE AND IT'S FRAME AND RIMS ARE MADE OF LIGHT WEIGHT ALUMINUM. IT IS SILVER/PINK AND IS IN EXCELLENT/NEW CONDITION! IF $125 IS TOO MUCH MAKE ME AN OFFER! So she rode it with the "manuel atached", why was he there? And I spy huge brakes. I only buy from people who can spell. |
"shoe lock pedals"? "rear fork"? I think had suntour actually made highend racing frames they might have put Superbee components on them don't you? no doubt it is a nice frame but most like a fuji and someone put the custom lime green on it
|
Suntour and Shimano have both sold dropouts with their name on them. Campy used to ship a set of dropouts with their component groups, maybe Suntour got the same idea at some point? I think Shimano may have done the same.
