i just picked up an older cinelli in bianchi celeste and i noticed the rear dereiluer campy nuovo-has no patent number and the nuovo seat post has the campy words on the sides instead of on the front below the seat which is what is common. any info on this greatly appreciated

Errrrr...isn't that a rather rare set of components now? Someone did a thread about seeing one of these un-dated derailleurs on ebay a while ago I think.

At the very beginning, the Patent inscription was not where it was typically for most of the production. To see if its one of the two earliest versions, the tension spring case needs to be examined, if it has no limit screw, but the case has a tooth as part of the shell, its the very earliest, if the pulleys are undersized they are also original, if the limit screw is there but brazed on then it is version two, also rare and prior to 1970 where the date was stamped along with the word patent.

Seat post is also probably early, and may not match the other stuff as to age, but back then, period correct, was what was on the shelf, dates? no one cared about dates, is was n like the stuff spoiled.

Joe, did Mr. $9000. offer man ever come back with the cash?

hi. yeah he came back for the confente with a cashiers check for the 9g we went to my bank and they gave the ok so everything worked out . he was an asian gentleman from sf.the adjusting screws look about the same as on a reg nuovo. i suppose the number could have faded but i see no sign of a number just a patent with no number.also on the cranks there is no campy logo on the front of them. like on others so i dont know about that either. maybe over buffing? doesnt look like it but ill try to get some pics next week

Is the "PATENT" lettering parallel to the length of the bike (Z-axis), or is it at 90 degrees to the length? If the latter, one of the first two variants as repechage notes; if the former, 1967-1970 version as shown below:

Just a curious choice, as is the decision to confuse with the image showing the word PATENT mounted on a chrome frame with a plastic skewer end and the others showing a Campagnolo skewer, just unusual.

So you would have preferred that I take apart an entire drivetrain in order to photograph something that is illustrated equally by existing photos that I had, as shown above?

I cannot help it if the moron who owned the Paramount prior to my purchase of it stuck a pair of Shimano 105 hubs on it. At the time I took the PATENT photo, that "blasphemy" had become my problem no earlier then one day prior.

just a side note, any infor on the seat post? it has campagnolo written on each side lengthwise surrounded by the typical campy diagram and the cranks dont say campy on the fronts, in fact there is nothing on the fron just on the back of them.
ps. when did bikes start using braze on dereuller levers. the cinelli has braze levers and braze on top tube cable guides instead of clamps. does this help date the bike. as i said before ill get pics by saturday.

well my "go fast" bike is a 62cm masi, and it's just a bit small. I'm pretty sure the GM was a 64.. i think i could have made it work. I'm considering going back to the shop to try and track it down. I could probably sell a colnago frame&fork i have sitting around and use that towards it.....





but i gotta convince the fiance....
