How NOT to Fix A Missing Quill
 

I picked up this Univega Supra Sport over the weekend. Some genius lost the quill and the quill bolt and decided to fix the steering by wrapping an automotive radiator clamp around the stem and the front reflector. :thumb: Well you can guess what happened next, the constant turning loosened the head bolt which loosened the reflector and so now there's NO STEERING!:eek: I know what you're going to say, Rocco you're such a stickler for these little details.

Sorry about the pic, but it's late here and I just wanted to get this posted. Oh yeah, their genius did not stop with the quill bolt. They also decided to run the chain on the outside of the cage chain guides instead of inside like the rest of us. So the derailer now has a bent cage. Hey, I only paid $10 for it so I can have a good laugh. Feel free to comment or add the repair jobs you've seen.

wow, went all the way to the store for a hose clamp instead of grabbing the metric bolts right next to the clamp aisle. Some people scare me. I'm going to assume this person also does his own car repair.

Not bike related, but car related. i used to drive an old Camaro that would try to stay running after I would turn it off, kind of embarrassing. Anyway, this guy hears it and tells me the way to fix it is to put a few drops of dish detergent into the carburetor. WTF? All it needed was for the timing adjusted and the it turned off just fine.

When I first rescued Corky from a barn, the clamp on cable stop at the top of the down tube was corroded away (although the brazed on one was fine, but smaller diameter) so the previous owner used a hose clamp to hold the cable housing against the down tube.

It also had a less obtrusive fix since the front derailleur cable was non-existent... the front derailleur had the delimiter screw set to hold the derailleur solidly in position for the outer ring.

There was also black electrical tape instead of cable clamps in several locations.

I spend a lot of time in junkyards looking for car parts and apparently the most versatile fastener known to man is the 1" Drywall Screw. I find these everywhere!

I dunno, duct tape is up there somewhere I have a seat and handlebars with the stuff on it. Actually, the seat ain't that bad........:D

I don't think I'd ride it that way.
