Is this Lemond "Maillot Jaune" for real?

So, a friend of mine put in a bid for this Lemond frame, which the seller claimed to be a Maillot Jaune made in 2001. I think it may be a custom paint job, hard to say...Here are some pictures...

He did give a serial number wtu0012275N. It does look like a 2000 or newer frame, given the super short dropouts, but I can't see any other unique identifying characteristics. Can anybody help me ID the frame?

That's a Trek serial number (LeMond was a subdivision of theirs), and it looks like a LeMond from around that time, but since the paint definitely isn't original and he's applied some generic decals (in the wrong places), it's impossible to tell what it is. That fork is a crappy replacement one as well - so it makes me wonder what happened to the nice original one, and why a repaint was needed.

That's a definite pass for the exact reasons Torchy pointed out----why is it repainted? Where is the original fork? Not worth the agony.

In the case of more modern frames, the older, steadfast rules, mostly don't apply. The OEM fork is likely gone because of a carbon replacement (Or possibly was OEM carbon). Still doesn't explain the repaint, but the fork is not as suspect as it's been made out to be.

It should be yellow, but now it's just a black frame.
roccobike has one. I can't imagine that bike repainted. Seriously.

My friend did email Le/Trek, still no answer from them. It does seem a little sketchy, but the seller assures my friend that the frame is legit.
