What is the difference, if any, between pantographing and engraving? The fork crown on my Basso has the Basso "B" pantographed, as well as the on the brake bridge, BASSO on the seat stays, but my brake levers and seat post and d/t shifters have the Campy emblem etched or engraved, seemingly more finely and detailed. Just curious. I agree, too much is not good looking but the Gios just looks "right" with all of it's panto.

I hafta agree 50/50.
Some of the designs are "forced" looking, just too much.
I especially don't like when they're painted sloppily,
it seems to cheapen the part almost.

That maasi bike was crazy.

It is ALL engraving. It is done with a pantograph.

A lot of what people call pantographing in fork crowns and seat stay caps is actually cast when they make the lugs/caps/crowns.

Precisely. Or stamped. This leads to confusion when people read about bikes described as having full pantographing and assume it's the frame being spoken of rather than the components.

Here's one to consider. A buddy asked me to help him find an SLX frame years ago, and I ended up getting a Cinelli SC that a kid in town had kind of botched up with mismatched parts and a half assed paint stripping. I cleaned it up and put it back together with the parts it came with, including this 3ttt that the kid mentioned, he had been told, was something special that the original owned got on a trip to Italy. So, the question is, does what is inscribed seem familiar to anyone? You can see in this pic pretty much as well as can be seen at all. Can't make it all out.
